DARN ! I *finally* settled on this notebook:

    model 07687ZU
    N100 T2300e core duo 1GB 100GB wsxga+ 1680x1050 geforce 7300 $1199 CDN after rebate.

Out of stock! 3-4 weeks delivery, need to come from China.

    So I canceled my order.

    In stock:
model 076836U 1280 display, window (ahem) pro (cough) - yeah ok, as if.
    model 076821U 1680 windows pro (hickup) $1,629.00 - what the f?

Ok, Lenovo is nice and all, but they *clearly* have supply problems. They are actually selling less than they could.

Maybe just maybe Lenovo is not as committed to the North American market as IBM was. Apparently Lenovo's products are readily available in many other markets. This could be some kind of conspiracy theory but maybe just mayabe Lenovo is thinking more globally as allocating their products to the respective markets. Also they make a killing in other markets when for the same product it can cost upto $1000 more for the same laptop as in USA/Canada. Such increase can not be blamed on shipping becaus China is closer to the ASEAN region than N.America, and it can't be blamed on Import Duty because Import duty in many Asean nations is very little.

Very true. Import duties in the US are space, not sky, high.

I ordered one the other day from CDW and it should be delivered on Friday.

They did not have any instock at the time but had to order one from the Leveno distribution center in Indiana and it shipped the same day from that distribution center.

It could just be a regional problem or possibly high demand. They do have a $100 rebate going at this time which is one of the factors that enticed me to order now, along with features and hardware to boot, it was a no brainer.

Still sounds like gambling. You're at the mercy of current stocks. Companies will just give you a standard line.

Besides, I'm in Canada, so there'd be (not)free trading issues, duties, and frowning customs offices nosing through boxes at the border...

    :(

Here in Hong Kong, lenovo's 3000 series are all over the place and the price is extremely low. You can find N100 for $800USD and V100 for $1200USD.
