Anyone know why the heck there's *eight* partitions on a Win8.1 N585 system?
![]()
Geez.... what are they all for?
Here's my guess... please feel free to correct/expand on what I have here:
Partition #0, Windows RE (Recovery - Windows partition for safe mode?)
Partition #1, EFI, Bootable partition
Partition #2, One key recovery partition? (not sure)
PArtition #3, Windows OS
Partition #4, ????
Partition #5, ????
Partition #6, Lenovo (empty 25GB) - what the heck is this for?
Partition #7, Recovery data image?
Thanks, all![]()

Hi,
actually, there is nine partitions in your case. One of them, MSR partition is not shown in Windows Disk Management. You can check this in diskpart utility.
Partition #1 -> Windows RE partition - stores winre.wim - boot image to boot Windows Recovery Environment
Partition #2 -> EFI partition, Bootable partition, conatins EFI boot files (bootmgr.efi)
Partition #3 -> Lenovo Recovery System partion (LRS_ESP), stores lrs.wim boot image (OneKey Boot Environment)
Partition #4 -> Microsoft Reserved System partition - partition required for Microsoft EFI system
Partition #5 -> Windows OS partition
Partition #6 -> Windows Recovery Partition that was created during Windows 8.1 Upgrade process (Win8->Win8.1)
Partition #7 -> not sure what type partition (check this in dispart), maybe another winre partition
Partition #8 -> Lenovo partition for created backup images by LenovoOKR tool (default path in LenovoOKR)
Partition #9 -> PBR_DRV partition (Lenovo) that contains Windows image and other required images for factory recovery (lrs.okr, boot.okr, winre.okr, etc)
I have posted Lenovo OKR 8 disk layout here. Maybe you will able to find additional info in followed posts in this thread. -
Awesome, thanks for the explanation! Just seems like overkill compared to the days where there was the EFI partition, the recovery portion, the OS, and the recovery drive
N585 partitions
