Hey folks! Alright, so I have this gorgeous FX 3700 here and want to install it to replace the FX 2700.

Besides the actual graphics card, it also came with three items, which I have included below, and which I know not...what the hell to do with. I'm going to be audacious and presume to know that they were sent for a reason. Please help me identify these items, so I can install this unnecessarily powerful-for-me GPU. ;)

I thank you in advance for your invaluable expertise! :)

OHHouch! Sorry, for the size of these babies. Mods: Please let me know if I can take them down later to replace them with smaller size versions.

So, to identify, I think it's pretty self-explanatory: There's this black square which is likely needed for the GPU on the card, the yellow "paper of sorts" with the silver pattern on it. Man, this is getting embarrassing lol...Finally, the grey, puffy, and scored like a Xanax...thingy. <--- HAHAH oh man, guys, can we please get this over with, and forget this thread ever happened. Please let me know what, if anything, I should do with these items. The Lenovo "mini movie" installation video looks like "jut remove and replace". I just want to do it right the first time.

    Thanks very much!! :)

those are the offset block and rubber spacers for the heatsink.   download the W700 hardware maintenance manual and read the instructions. ;)

Thanks erik! The HMM doesn't address the yellow sheet. Do you know what its purpose is? Thanks! :)

the yellow sheet should be the rubber spacers.

ARGHHH...FAIL...darn it. I came < > this close. I ended up putting my Thinkpad back together after I just couldn't find the screwdriver that would have allowed me to unscrew the ONE screw that kept me from getting this done. One!

Oh well, so I'll get the right screwdriver tomorrow and re-attempt.

By the way, the FX 2700 that is currently installed, do you know if it's the same physical size as the FX 3700? Maybe I won't need some or all the stuff that came with the card (in the pics).

Anyway, thanks again for being the only one to help me with this. Kinda reminds me of the time I used half a gallon of silver compound for that T7600 a couple of years ago. I didn't forget who helped me then, too!... which reminds me...You never took me up on my offer for some dirt cheap (but brand new) Lenovo and /or IBM parts. I still have the same "in", just fyi. :D

i have an FX 3700M in my W700 and unfortunately haven't had the 2700M cross my desk to compare the two in size.   i'd imagine they use the same size board since, unless i'm mistaken, the cards are standardized in their socket and footprint.

i'm guessing you ran into a torx screw.   it's been a while since i had my W700 spread across my desk but remember seeing an odd screw somewhere in there.

no problem on the help.   i do what i can. :)
