Hey, guys. I recently got my Y580 and I am having a little trouble with my GPU. For some reason, it isn't performing as much as I hoped it to be. I upgraded the GPU drivers and selected the GPU for my preference graphics card to use. But I am still getting around 20 FPS on 1080 resolution with med settings in Guild Wars 2 and I am still getting a little FPS lag on CS:GO. I also downloaded PlanetSide 2 and I am getting really low fps rates on med settings. I was wondering if there is anything else I can do or is this all the GPU can achieve. I bought the Y580 to avoid such problems, but it seems as though I am still not able to play the games that I want.

Any help and suggestions is appreciated. Thanks!

PS. I know the laptop is using the GPU and not the iGPU because I have the GPU icon on my taskbar and it tells me when it's being used and which programs it is using.

something is definatly wrong.. check your power settings in windows.. should be set to lenovo dynamic ... not to power saver. Also make sure your laptop is plugged in.. not on battery

Hey, thanks! My power option was in balanced and I just switched to Lenovo Dynamic and even turned off the Vsync. However, I am still getting about the same FPS in GW2. Could it be a malfunction on my GPU?

Okay, I am on my other laptop because after rebooting the Y580 to see if it will make a difference, now it just shuts down whenever it loads the OS. I can't even get on the laptop now...

You might have to do a clean re-install on that. Hate to have you call tech support but you may want to request a warranty repair.

Just got in after just putting in the battery.. It is most likely due to changing my power option to the Lenovo dynamic setting... and I really am not hoping to contact Lenovo. Just getting the laptop itself was a huge hassle.

    edit//
i did a system restore which I think changed the power option back to balanced so now it is ok. should i try to change it to the lenovo dynamic setting again to see if it works or is it most likely do the same thing and shut off? i am so confused to why my laptop is doing this..

Do a fresh installation of OS and install only apps that you neeed.

dont install all the apps and softwares that Lenovo gives.

yea.. something is wrong for sure.. switch to lenovo dynamic.. you dont even have to restart.. now play a game.. but... right click on the .exe of the game..and go into ...."run with graphics Processor" now ... select nvidia high performance .. if you still dont get frame rates.. something is just really wierdly wrong. might be the GPU clocks stuck low.. happend to mine once while playing crysis 2 over clocked with super high res texture pack and beta drivers.

Yeah, it's barely making a difference after I put in the Lenovo dynamic setting. I also noticed that whenever I start a game, the iGPU icon also appears right next to the NIVIDA icon in my taskbar temporarily. Could that be the issue? If so, how do I prevent that?

Are you playing without the Charger in? If you dont play with the charger plugged in, it greatly decreases FPS on video games..

Oh yea btw GW2 underclocks gpu's no matter what you have so if you're in Lion's Arch even with a 680m you'd still lag. They need to optimize it better. Also according to my friend he said the game loads as you look around so if you have an SSD lag would be nonexistent as you look around you but if you have an HDD you'll notice so fps lag as the game is trying to load.
