I prefer the Lenovo T61P because it offers WUXGA resolution.

My understanding is the 570M in the T61P and the 8510w use GDDR3 memory, which accounts for the 'more powerful' score compared to the 1520 and its DDR2 graphics memory (which is not as fast).

If a laptop with the 8600GT had GDDR3 memory (some do, I just don't know which) then they'd probably about tie.

The outward appearance of the ThinkPad hasn't changed much in terms of color or style. It's still black, still looks like a brick, but why fix what isn't broken?

Check out the pictures taken from an actual T61p owner here:

Wow..jedi your t61p is a powerhouse. Anyways, I really am interested in this computer, however the resolution is bothersome. Do you guys know if they will offer lower resolution models anytime soon? How do you guys deal with readinig such tiny texts on WUXGA+? It already hurts me to do it on a WSXGA+. Also...how much would gaming suffer when using such high resolution?

NO no, can't claim credit for those pics. Those are taken from a member named GarryF on the ThinkPads.com forum. But in terms of appearance, and functionality, those pics are a great reference.

There is talks on Lenovo's site about offering WSXGA+, but its not available yet and I wouldn't hold out on a specific date to be released for awhile. You can always make the text bigger in the OS itself if need be. Aside from gaming, most games allow you to configure lower resolutions for faster frame rates. Or just plug a monitor into it and set it up however you like.

Thanks for the credit Jedi, let us know how yours performs when it appears, faster processor than mine and the 4GB :) it should fly

Btw all the benchmarks for 570M T61P are here
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=46051&start=0

Look at page 4 and you'll see the T61P 570m with a 3d mark05 of 7700, the best 8600GT is listed at 6100, these numbers don't take account of processor etc but I still think it's a clear win for the T61P

I'm really loving the screen after two weeks, the system seems to have a funny font from the factory for explorer etc, after reinstall it goes back to the "normal" one. I can see some people finding stuff to small but I really like it.You can also increase the vista DPI to make text etc bigger, that helps a bit.
