Alright, so I sold my first of two W700's. I guess I'll get rid of the other one as well, now that the T410/T510/X310, and W510 models are out. Is the W710 still slated for spring 2010? What differences other than the new "2010 Intel Core" processors can we expect to see? For one, hopefully a damn DisplayPort that carries audio, or better yet, an HDMI port. How is the screen of the W510? No IPS still? LED?
I'm also interested in one of those all-in-one workstations. Frankly, I've been very interested in the new iMac with the 27.5" screen. It has IPS, and LED. I played around with one at an Apple store and the screen is stunningly beautiful!
They use the same processors, and thanks to this BootCamp, which just got a refresh to include support Windows 7, you can even run it natively, and format the Windows partition in NTFS. I don't care for a Mac so much as I am drooling over that screen!
Please let me hear some opinions. Most important to me is the screen, and I must be able to run Windows 7 without any limitation.![]()

I've heard (on these forums) that even Boot Camping Windows will not allow it to run without limitation. I've also heard running CAD programs in Windows on a Mac is pathetic. I have no direct experience with this, but it did remove MBP from my laptop buying list.
Also, does Apple still sell the Cinema Display? Isn't that pretty much what was used on the new iMacs? If so, you can have the screen without the Mac. -
Also, there are many great IPS screens out there as well that are at least on part with the iMacs, and will certainly be cheaper than buying a new iMac. Dell has some nice ones, actually.

@knight427: Yes, Apple still sells the Cinema displays, but the newer 21.5" and 27" iMac's have a significantly better screen. In fact, the entire iMac's "greatness" revolves around its screen. Eventually, Apple will refresh the Cinema displays I would think, but as of right now, that's apples and oranges.
Interesting what you noted on the boot camp. Well, I don't work with CAD, so that wouldn't bother me. However, I take this to mean that there are perhaps other limitations. You're looking to get a new what, laptop, too? (Psst...I have a seriously sick W700 spec'd to the maxonly 6 months old!)
@MidnightSun: (long time, no see btw.) I have thought of those as well yea...I guess Lenovo's all-in-one machines, which include the monitor, and are even (somewhat) portable are nowhere nearly as good? The screens I mean?
P.S.: Did you used to have the Intel Gen. 1 SSD before you got the Gen. 2? If so, how big a difference, if any, can you "feel".
Thanks to both of you! -
if you don't work with CAD then the 27inch iMac is one to get, i don't usually recommend Apple computers, but this 27 inch iMac (i got one) is so good compared to any similar computers within its class, i think it would be hearsay not to recommend it. You can even use it as a standalone LCD, since the displayport on it is two way (so it allows input and output at the same time)....

Quick question. Does the fact that the display is glossy not bother you? With all the reflections, etc.?

iMacs are great computers. I used one for just over a year, and still would if I didn't need something more portable.
Bootcamp isn't perfect.. I had a couple of issues in windows xp: I couldn't connect to my wifi from XP and the internal mic was very low. The drivers are probably better now, but keep in mind that it won't run as well as it would on an actual PC. Another issue I had in XP was the volume was way too high.. I had to set the volume on windows to the lowest setting possible, and even that was probably too loud for headphones.
The glossy display is great when you have the computer angled right.. although it does suck being limited in where you can have the iMac. You absolutely can't have a window behind you, and it can get pretty bad no matter where the imac is if the sun is shining right in your window.
All in all a great computer, but don't let yourself get mesmerized by how pretty it is to the point that you ignore it's drawbacks. That is Apple's trap--I'm actually switching back to the PC world because I've come to value function over form. -
I makes me wonder how you guys seem to love the 27" iMacs, even though they have huge display issues:

i have a system in front of me with a glossy display and do not like the reflectivity at all. but, YMMV. some people don't mind it. -
FYI the W510 displayport carries video AND audio. For details see the displayport thread in this forum
Need 2 computers: W710? Screen of W510? Thinkcentre or IdeaCentre or iMac??
