I have X200 with 4GB Ram. Winows7 is only able to show 2.9GB usable memory. My question is do I need to do fresh install of 64-bit Windows7 to see 4GB RAM or there is some way I can convert 32-bit install to 64-bit?

    Thnaks

Yes, you have to do a fresh install of the 64bit version of Win7. You also have to get the 64bit drivers for the hardware as well.

Any reason why not to install 64-bit? I mean anyone knows any known issues if I want to install 64-bit Windows7. Most of the programs I use are available for 64-bit so that's not the issue.

I went exclusively to 64bit on all of my computers 2 years ago, and I haven't encountered a single issue. Go 64bit and never look back :)

On rare occasions you will run into issues with poorly written programs that refuse to install on a 64-bit OS (even though they would work) and some older devices (especially printers) don't have 64-bit drivers available.

On the whole though the benefits of a 64-bit OS are real and the downsides quite minor.
