Hello guys I am quite new here.

I really need help with choosing between these two laptops, I am little confused with which one to go for. Whether to choose Lenovo G560 or Sony Vaio E series.

    Config for Lenovo G560:

    System components

    Intel® Core™ i3-330M Processor ( 2.13GHz 1066MHz 3MB )

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64

    Nvidia 310M 512 MB DDR3

    4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz

15.6" WXGA LED Backlight TFT 1366x768

Industry Standard Touchpad (This is something which worries me)

    320GB 5400

    DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)

6 Cell Lithium-Ion ( More powerful battery than in sony vaio)

    Sony Vaio E series:

    • Intel® Core™ i3-330M Processor 2.13 GHz

    • Genuine Windows® 7 Home Basic (64-bit)

    • 15.5 (39.37 cm) wide (WXGA: 1366 x 768) VAIO Display

    • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 Graphics 512MB DDR3

    Bundled Battery VGP-BPS22 Lithium-ion battery: 6 Cell

    Drive DVD±RW/±R DL/RAM Drive

    Touchpad Intelligent Touchpad

I have heard people who were using industry standard touch pad on G550 and also new users of G560 has issues with it. I want to know some views on it as well, as touch pad is the only thing which holds me back from going for levono otherwise I have seen both machines in the shop. Levono is what I like the most for its solid build and great case.

Price offered to me for both these models is almost same with just difference about $18 being Lenovo in the upper end.

    Like to know your views.

    Regards

PS: Sorry I just saw I posted this in the wrong section, I would request the moderators to move this one. I really apologize for the mistake.

i definitely wouldn't go for this Sony machine, because this hinge design is used in many HP DV series, which are known to have high failure rates, where it cracks or causes connection problems. This Lenovo laptop's hinge is slightly better, but not as robust as the one you will find in business laptops.

Which country are you located in? and what is your budget?

I am from India and my budget is around $900, Laptops are bit expensive here when compared to US.

I definitely like Lenovo better in all aspects except for track pad where people complain of having issues with it.

Sony Vaio on the other hand is what some of my friends suggest to go for.

I never knew about this hinge design thing though.. seems Lenovo is a better option in all aspects.

anybody wants to comment on the track pad issue with the Lenovo?

    Regards

"anybody wants to comment on the track pad issue with the Lenovo?"

What issue? My t61p works fine but I don't use the trackpad.

I don't think they are the same trackpads as the ones used on in the Thinkpad line...

Is the discrete graphics card important to you? Not sure how those two cards compare though.

I don't play games that often and even if I do play games those are not graphics intensive. I need the laptop only for my works mostly.

Yes Thinkpad trackpads are different from this one.

The new intel graphics chip in the Arrandales is quite powerful relative to past iterations. Perhaps if you are only playing old games, you could look at a few other alternatives that don't have discrete graphics.

I like Lenovo personally over other brands and really love Thinkpads. But Thinkpads are just above my budget range here in my country. Few of my friends suggested Sony Vaio E Series over Lenovo, and I know they are not the experts in the field or have very little knowledge about notebooks which is the reason I wanted to know suggestion from people around here.

Reason I picked this one is mainly because of the core i3 processor which will do good with multi tasking which I tend to do a lot. Also it has a decent display if I want to watch movies occasionally, Also I liked the solid built of this laptop over sony vaio one which looked really cheap to me when I saw the model.

The Sony E series is not the best choice..... the quality is neither here nor there, just like its price. From personal experiences with Sony laptops, don't ever get their entry level one.

Good call on going with the G560, especially with all the battery issues that seem to plague sony laptops (in some cases significant reduction of battery capacity within a year, bad power management)

    Congrats!!!
