    Hello,

    1. I recently flashed my BIOS to 62cn40ww over my original BIOS. All went well with no problem.
    2. Then I installed win 8.1, installation was successful.
    3. Then I flashed my BIOS to latest 62cn97ww. Installation was successful and successfully booted to os.
    4. But then I noticed my some function keys and OSD (on screen display) are not working in win 8.1.
    5. I then logged onto win 7 then saw the same problem.
    6. Then I re installed all original and then upgraded drivers of the system but problem was not solved.
    7. Then I formatted the whole system, re installed only windows 7, installed original drivers (from DVD) then upgraded the drivers from Lenovo site.
    8. But the problem remains same.
    9. I think this is due to the BIOS 97ww. I want to downgrade to 40ww. I tried to install the 62cn40ww_64.exe (as I did earlier in step 1), but I am getting an error "Error 233 - Only secured capsule is allowed on a SecureFlash system!"
    10. I tried flashing using USB at start up in pure DOS mode but this .exe file cannot be used in DOS mode.

So problem is some OSD and some function keys are not working. like Fn + F5 (wireless n bluetooth), Fn + F6(keypad lock), Fn + up/down arrow (Brightness control).

    Probable solution:
I think downgrading to original BIOS or 40ww will definitely solve my problem. But for that I need the .rom files or DOS exe files to flash in DOS mode at startup. and also, the steps to do that (so as I can be sure). Anyone with this BIOS 62cn40ww can also provide me backup using some BIOS backup tool.

    Model: Lenovo G580, 20157, S/n: WBxxxxxxxx
    Please help. Thanks.

Try making a Rufus (DOS) USB?

Probably because lenovo's BIOS utilities are native x64 binaries, in which you would need something like a Windows 7 recovery DVD.

ok. But this laptop was a DOS version. So they had not provided any recobery DVD. They had only given the drivers DVD. and in that there is nothing related to recovery.

    So any other solution?

You can download Windows 7 here for free. It does not come with a serial, but it will allow you to boot it to use the recovery tools (command line).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-digitalriver-windows-7-sp1-13-languages.html

Be sure to get 64 bit.

Basically, what you wanna do, is burn a dvd of Windows 7 64 bit, then place the bios .exe on a usb. Insert the dvd and usb into the laptop, boot the laptop from the dvd. Go to "repair computer" and then go to recovery tools, command prompt. Then you wanna switch over to your usb from the command line and execute the bios .exe DOS style.

@manish.. did you solve your problem?? i am having the same issue... amd there is no way i can boot dos from dvd or usb because at the time of upgrading the bios.. the stupid secure boot feature was turned on.. now i cannot get to bios settings to turn it off. and even if try to flash the 97ww firmware it gives me an error saying that ROM is old or same as the current one the flash process gets aborted.. even if someone can tell me the correct command line switch to skip the version checking for "PhoenixSCT flash tool" which is available at lenovo support site.. it would be very helpful. moderators and admins please help me out.
    Thanking in advance.

I can access the efi shell via booting through a usb pendrive.. if some one can give me efi binary which can flash phoenix bios with the procedure that would also be very helpful.. i have the .cap file of the update that i extracted from the .exe package.
