Now that my T61 15.4 ' with a 9 cell battery have shipped, I need a sleeve, any suggestion? Already have a real nice Backpack. The Mobile Edge secure pack. Now need a good quality sleeve to compliment it. :D :D

I was looking around for a sleeve for the same size computer. www.sfbags.com www.tombihn.com www.spireusa.com all make bags with designs meant for the T61.

Unfortunately for me, they are all a bit expensive. I think I'm going to make my own :p

I'm in the same boat as you (sans laptop being shipped). I have a feeling it might be hard finding a sleeve that will fit the 9cell, too.

I believe there are some sleeves on www.sfbags.com that fit. It's the fact that the battery is protruding but only on one side of the back that will make a sleeve awkward to use.

14.1 x 1.4 x 11, I believe are the dimensions with the 9 cell. Size 2S seems to be the closest fit, but it'll probably be too small.

Yeah, looks like 2S is the size that T61p with 9cell would work best in. Just make sure you order the horizontal version, so the battery can stick out a bit at the top.

Do you all think that a 15.4' sleeve would fit too snug, maybe a 17' would be better? :radar:

I have used one by Case Logic picked up from eBags with my past several laptop/notebooks.

I also have the Pelican hard cases for those situations when they are appropriate.

The Pelican hard cases are nice, but a little out of my price range.

I ended up going with the Case Logic Laptop Shuttle (the one with the zippered pocket in front). I'm not a big fan of the zippered pocket because the zippers can add a couple extra pressure points on the notebooks chassis when it's in a bag, but the sleeve fits PERFECTLY around the 15.4" T61 w/9-cell battery. When you place the notebook into the sleeve, it has the slightest bit of resistance on the side of the notebook- meaning a good fit. With the notebook inside the sleeve and zippered closed, there's about 1/4" to 1/2" of space in between the back of the battery and the top of the zipper (i place my notebook latch side first into the sleeve).

It's definitely not going to protect your notebook from a fall. It will however protect your notebook from scratches and dings from everyday use.

Since you already have a Mobile Edge SecurePack you should check out the Mobile Edge laptop sleeves. They come in four sizes and colors, perfect for your ThinkPad. Also, there is an outside zippered pocket which is made to carry your power supply and other accessories. These laptop sleeves rock. :D

    Check them out at http://www.mobileedge.com/items.asp?cid=19&scid=19&pid=102

Or you can always call me direct at 714.399.1410.

Matthew, I saw those on Amazon.com. I almost ordered one, but was concerned if they fit the T61 with a 9 cell battery. If I call you can I get a discount?

Matthew, those sleeves look very nice. However, how much give do they have? Apparently T61p's are 1.4" tall, and the listed dimension is 1.3" tall. Would there be any problem fitting a t61p in it?

That's what I use, and its great because it's made of wetsuit material (you know, for those days you like to take your laptop for a swim  )

Well whatever the case I'm not too worried about something spilling in a bag or suitcase on it that way. It's a slight tight fit for my T60 because its a standard screen size, but I'm sure the widescreens will more easily squeeze through. They're meant to be tight though. Check them out. You can order them online, or if you are in the Manhattan area you can get them at Paragon Sports. Mine fits 13 - 15 inch or something like that.

I've never owned my own laptop before. I just ordered a T61 however, and I want to keep it as nice as possible. What exactly is the sleeve good for?

a sleeve is a lightweight "case" that just protects it from being scratched up

So if the only place I'm going to be carry my laptop is in a school bag, is a sleeve still a good idea, or would that just be a waste?

Depends on how much you want to keep it looking new as possible I guess. I also throw it into a backpack with the Built NY sleeve and just feel more comfortable knowing that IF it scratched up against something there is some extra padding. Some people just chuck it in there and don't care, personal preference.
