I wanted to upgrade the hard drive on my X61 from my 100gb to something bigger. I was considering one of these two drives and had a couple questions.

First of all, will these fit in my laptop?

How would I be able to transfer all my files from my current hard-drive to the new one?

I currently have a 7200rpm drive, would it be a noticeable difference if I went with 5400? or should I pay extra and stay with 7200?

If these hard drives arent good, does anyone have any better suggestions? If price or quality are issues, I would rather pay extra and get something better. I just saw these on sale and thought they were cheap enough to consider.

They'll fit (any 2.5" SATA drive will).

A USB enclosure and imaging software (e.g. Self Image) is usually the fastest method.

You may notice the difference by dropping to a 5400 RPM drive. However, some of this will be offset by improved aerial density. Besides, if performance matters you should be looking at SSD's.

    Western Digital makes fine drives.

I would say if you're used to a 7200RPM drive, it's harder to go back to 5400RPM. The latency is more important than the throughput in terms of overall snappiness.
