Okay, due to a mistake when fixing my recently crashed a31p, i have turned it into a paperweight. So I need to replace it and rather quickly.

It is my main computer for business, school, and the occasional game.

My A31p was suitable for me needs, a bit slow maybe, and graphics were okay but not great. So that being said, I need to find a replacement as my business is at a standstill until i replace this computer.

    My a31 specs are
    p4 1.8
    1g ram
    DVD DL multiburner
Dual hard drives 40G and 50G
    Budget,

I was hoping to stay below 1K, but might be tempted to go to 1.3K

    Requirements
    Durability, durability durability.
    I need at least a 40G hardrive
    Wireless networking at least G
I would like an improvement in graphics performance from the a31
a dvd burner preferably a combo burner.
also trying to get the most value for the money and not have it be instantly obsolete,

    So any suggestions.

If you are looking for durability, you cant go wrong with a thinkpad T60. And I think you can get something for 1300$

8x Max Dual Layer DVD Recordable Ultrabay Slim Drive

Though not as good as the T, the R60 offers good value if you want to keep the price down.

r60... you'll get what you want in there, but if you want added durability, go with a t60 zaz configured

And an FYI call Thinkpad (you mentioned school, your school might have a discount program with Lenovo/IBM in place) and also note your time constraints.

How would these compare to the a31p in terms of durability?
