    Hey guys,

My bios was updating through system update and in the middle it failed and it made some beeping noises and then it shut off. Now when I turn on the computer it doesnt do anything, the battery and power button are on but the screen is blank. When I turn it off it makes a noise like somethings coming to a stop. Either way I get a black screen I cant see anything. My warranty is expired so should i spend the 99 dollars for phone support?

    Thanks for any info

First we need some help with type and model, but unfortunately it sounds like it is housed. I suspect it needs to go in for factory service which may or may not be worth it depending on the age of the machine.

I bought the machine using my american express which extends the manufacture warranty by 1 year so I is covered under that.

Many people have had that problem. I recommend to anyone else who absolutely must update the bios not to use the online method.

If Lenovo balks at covering this they should consider how many machines they have ruined with their faulty system.

I would agree that you should only flash from disk. American Express is great with their warranty service; platinum card only way to do :)

Generally the best and safest way to flash a BIOS is with a floppy while starting the machine on cold boot and having it hooked up to a UPS/Line Conditioner. Have flashed desktops (over 100 of them) this way without error. Well the days of the FDD are gone.
