We use several T43 Thinkpads in the courtroom for presenting evidence. The drive in my current T43s is only around 70GB. I have a case that is 80GB so I need to replace the drives.

What's the largest drive I can get for the T43 and where would I get it? I don't know anything about buying laptop drives.

    Thanks!!!!!!

Upgrading the drives in a T43 is a bit of a crap-shoot due to the SATA-to-PATA adapter that causes errors with incompatible drives - and there are a lot of those.

How attached are you to your optical drive? If that's not something you use regularly, then you might want to consider getting a hard drive adapter for the modular bay, which will let you throw in any drive you want, which I think runs up to 200 GB now.

If that won't work, hopefully others here will be able to let you know about which drives are likely to work in your laptop.

You can buy from Lenovo which will ensure compatibility, but will be more expensive. 160GB is the biggest if you want 5400RPM.

if you're in a hurry or something you might as well just get an external usb hard drive that is enough space for you. It's the most simple way and fast est you can do.

getting a new hard drive you're gonna be replacing the old hard drive so you gonna need to use recovery disk or reinstall winxp, bla bla

I have a 2nd drive in all the computers for redundancy (I use the hard drive adapter from IBM). Can I really throw in any drive I want? Can you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

You should be able to use any IDE 2.5" hard drive, as there aren't any adapter problems. I have a 100 GB Seagate in mine that works great.
