I want to buy some ram for either a t61 or T61p but I have a few questions.
1.) Do they both take the same kind of RAM?
2.) Can I mix and match brands? Is there any benefit to getting 2 of the same brand?
3.) From what I read the memory type is
DDR2
PC5300
667Mhz
SODIMM
is it 200 pin or 240?
Can someone provide me the exact specs of the type of memory I need?
4.) How do I get dual channel capability?

let is scan and it will tell you the exact ram you need.
yes u can mix and match brands but try to stick with the same if possible -
i believe they use the same memory..
200-pin SODIMM PC2-5300 DDR2 667
i ordered 2gb from newegg.. $29 shipped (after rebate).. you can find deals like that all the time.. if you want the benefit of dual channel.. buy a dual channel kit such as a 4gb kit (2x2gb) or 2gb kit (2x1gb).. that way the memory is the exact same and matched from the manufacturer.. but since i ordered my r61 with just 1gb from lenovo.. i just went with a extra 2gb stick.. 3gb is well enough for xp or vista.. i only run 2gb on my home machine.. -
What's the difference between 1 DIMM AND 2 DIMM? The main reason for my asking is that a lot of people who chose 2 DIMM have reported having a lot of issues with BSOD's and such. I don't know if there really is a correlation, but it has definitely been suggested that the DIMM could be the issue.

I don't know who these people are, but practically every laptop comes with 2 Dimms of memory installed.

DIMM = 1 stick of RAM. Dual channel no longer depends on your memory. You can stick any two sticks of the same speed rating and get dual channel as long as the motherboard supports it. Each pair of sticks gets grouped into a "dual channel". You will use DDR2-667 200-pin laptop SODIMM for both T61 and T61p.
THAANSA3,
More DIMMs = more parts to go wrong, so naturally there is a higher probability of BSOD if you have two parts instead of 1. That being said, it is easier to resolve the BSOD temporarily as it just involves taking 1 stick out whereas if you only have 1 DIMM, you are screwed until you buy another stick of RAM. -
when you order you can select either 1 stick of memory or 2.. i would always choose 1 if i was going to upgrade on my own or later time.. if not.. just get 2 sticks..

hi,
i have recently bought 1 "TakeMS" 1GB Stick 200Pin So-Dimm
It has the same timings 5-5-5-12 like my original Nanya Stick.
It seems all ok with my book!
So you can mix your sticks. The chance of a BOSD will be greater, if you have
a graphics card with hyper or shared memory. Like an Ati or Nvidia card and do
intensive gaming.
