    1. Read and note the links at the bottom of article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_encryption_hardware

    2. Depends on your camera/phone. Most are SD I think, so the media card reader should be fine (??).

    3. Go with the thinkpad. Everyone says they're better. One of them works with b and g frequencies, and the other with those as well as N, which is a lot better but is not standard yet. I doubt you have a wireless N at home. When will it become standard? I have no idea, but I don't think it's going to become common use within the next 1-2 years. But it's less than $25 to have that option, so why not?

    4. Don't know.

I'd personally keep the express card slot and buy one of those media card readers for the express card slot.

you can turn an express card slot into many other things
but you can't turn a media card slot into an express card slot.

Agreed. USB card readers are $5 at RatShack today, and usually dead cheap everywhere. Go with ExpressCard, it has a future.

Data Encryption seems pointless for the casual user. You aren't a spy, are you? ;) Get a 7,200rpm drie if you can afford it. Turbo memory might be wise too.

Either Thinkpad wi-fi card (made by Atheros) for certain. It's much more sensitive than the Intel. N, if you can afford it.
