I have gone through PatchSans guide. I backed up everything from lenovo recovery on to usb then backed it up to my HD. I installed a brand new samsung 850 pro ssd. I'm stuck trying to format the drive. Windows is not letting me. I have tried loading intels rapid storage technology driver from lenovo, the newest one from intels website and nothing is working. Anyone have any ideas?

Does the drive show up in the BIOS, is it activated and/or in the correct boot order?

What are you formatting? The SSD? If your SSD is blank you do not need to format it to install W7. It should simply be a matter of getting to the 'Install Windows' screen and following the prompts for the quick and easy install path minus the custom install method (i.e., creating partitions).

In the startup tab of the bios the ssd is shown on ATA HDD0. I don't see anything labeling it active/inactive. I'm able to boot from my usb and I get to the windows format place and then it gives me the error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate a existing system partition.". I've tried loading sata drivers and it doesn't work. I've also tried formatting using diskpart and it still doesn't work....I'm lost....

I know some people always suggest that you do a fresh install when going to an SSD, when I worked for a large company we've done clones for thousands of machines from spindle to SSD, never had the users complain about any problems and everything was aligned correctly. When you have to go through and reset a bunch of functions, rejoin the domain, make sure their outlook profile, their rdp, terminal server and their voip app settings etc cloning was by far the best and fastest solution It's how I back up my stuff now, just a straight clone because redoing all the specific settings on some of my machines is an all day affair.
