I'm helping my uncle with choosing a drive to upgrade his old thinkpad 600E.

He wants a CDRW/DVD combo drive.

Now looking through ebay there's a huge price gap.

The issue is I don't have the part number for the drive, If I could get that it would help out a lot. Because most sellers just list the part number not the actual laptop that it fits.

I found one on ebay listed for a 600E, but it's selling for almost $50.
I asked the seller if he could provide me with the part number, but instead he just asked me for the cd drive number. Which was no help at all.

If anyone has the part numbers for a OE or aftermarket CDRW/DVD drive that would help me out a ton, thanks!

Here is what the Hardware Maintenance Manual lists as options for the 600E.

    DVD Drive 05K9068
    DVD Drive 05K9106
    CD-ROM Drive (LG) 05K9134
    CD-ROM Drive (SANYO) 05K9059
    CD-ROM Drive (SANYO) 05K8993
    CD-ROM Drive (TOSHIBA) 05K9124

Note that none of the drives above are writable. They are only readers.

Thank you for the info, so looking for a 05K part number would be a good idea?

He wants to burns cd's and watch dvds. I told him an external usb one would be an easy cheap choice. But he's set on an internal one.

I bought an aftermarket CD burner for my 600E several years ago on ebay. Bezel didn't match exactly, but it worked ok.
