I have an LG external monitor that is connected to my T61p. Everything was working great with the external monitor, but now, when I close the laptop lid, the icons on the external monitor increase to 2+ inches in size. When the laptop lid is open, the external monitor has icons of normal size. I've tried Fn-f7 functions without success. I may not be selecting the right option in Fn-f7?? Can anyone tell me how to set the laptop so that the external monitor icons remain the same size when the laptop lid is closed?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ann

Is the resolution changing or is it literally the icons resizing?

The icons resize to 2+ inches. I apologize, but I do not have a great deal of computer knowledge! However, I checked the status of what happens when you close the laptop lid, and it is set to "do nothing" in the system. I think that the only want to resolve this possibly is thru the Fn-F7 functions, but I have no idea what to set it to so that the icons on the external monitor do not increase in size. Does this make any sense?

    Thanks again,

    Ann

You can change the size of your icons if you are at the desktop, hold control and scroll your mousewheel. Can't remember if this works in XP too or if it's Vista only.

But it doesn't fix your strange problem...I have an LG external as well but no problems--I'll grab my brother's T61p and see if he has the same issue.

When the laptop lid is closed, the entire screen on the external monitor increases =-- everything on it grows bigger. This is an odd problem and I have no idea what I have accidently hit that has caused this as it was working perfectly yesterday morning.

Sounds like the computer is switching to a lower display resolution when the lid closes and the monitor is auto-expanding it to fill the screen.

What are you display properties when this happens? If you're running XP, right-click the mouse, select Properties, then the Settings tab and look at "Screen resolution". It should match your external display's resolution (assuming an LCD panel) such as 1280x1024 or whatever. If it doesn't try changing the slider to match.

Ok that means that the resolution is changing. I don't have a T61p, so I can't offer any additional assistance. Hopefully it clears up the issue for other people who can help.

    While the lid is closed...
    Try this for XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/personalize/resolution.mspx

    This for Vista: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/help/0386b009-5f30-45c7-80c8-ff0395cc24091033.mspx

Also, you can try updating to the latest drivers. I read in some Lenovo documentation that the following issue was fixed in a driver update: When performing a hot-undock several times, sometimes the external monitor resolution is wrong.

Okay, I finally got the resolution on the monitor to change and all is back to normal, with normal-sized text on the external monitor and no display on the laptop screen. A huge, huge thanks to all of you!!!!!
