    hi..

am thinking of purchasing a laptop, will be used for general work like ms-office, internet, watching movies and stuff and running software like rosetta stone and occasionally mathematica, matlab, statica etc...

Am not really sure if i3 would be enough for me or should I go for i5...

I'm currently using my office laptop which is T510, now am thinking which one to get for my home use which is as god as this T510 but not this much expensive.

I don't know much about the Lenovo series, which model is good for home use. I've googled quite a lot but couldn't find the desired results. If anyone can please tell me the models to look for, I can read their reivews and make up my mind. My budget is around 500-550 USD.

Well if you like the T510, the logical choice would be a T530... you could probably get one used for $550 too. Maybe you could find a refurb T520 for that price as well?

If you don't want used or refurb, then your best option for $500-$600 is probably the L series, something like the L530 or similar

Lenovo L530 is not in my range and I can't find refurbished T530 here...is there no other lenovo model which I can buy?

I found this Lenovo ThinkPad T400 Used for around 190USD with these specs but am not sure if its good enough for my use...

If you're watching movies, I'd think you'd want something with a better screen than a T400 would offer. The L series is a bit more plasticky and heavy, but still a solid notebook. A 15" L - L510, L520 or L530, with the HD+ LCD might worth a look. There's X230s with IPS LCDs in the Lenovo Outlet right now slightly over your budget.

the L series laptops are quite expensive as well....and X230 are twice my budget :(

maybe I should save a little more and then go for Yoga2 or HP Slatebook type device :p
