    Hey all,

Im pretty new to computers, but I've installed a new SSD in my old Macbook Pro with ease. I did a clean install on my Mac, so it was straight forward.

But now I want to install a SSD on my Lenovo Y50. I dont mind if I can clone the hard drive, or a fresh install. I read something with the Bios, and all that. In reality, i don't know how to exactly do all that without a step by step process!

So would cloning be the easiest way? If so how do I clone my OEM HDD to my new SSD?

    Any help would be great.

    Thank you!

Both ways are fairly easy to work with, though personally I prefer a clean install.

That said, the only thing that I can think of where you'd have to deal with the BIOS would be to make sure your Windows DVD (or flash drive) is the first item to boot so that you can start the install process. But once you get it started, it's dead simple to install the OS.

Go into the bios and make sure it will try to boot through the USB or DVD drive where the install media is. On most systems you can also press something like F12 while booting and will bring up a menu with all the boot options but I don't have my Y50 yet so dunno what the actual key combo is.

Once you do that and boot through the DVD/USB you'll probably see a sign saying something like "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD/USB" and after that the windows installer should show up. It's pretty easy really.
