7450-W45 is a refurbished CTO model. There's no way to know exactly what panel is in it without the unit's serial number. Neither refurbished nor CTO models are listed in PSREFs.

How do you know it's a refurbished unit. Is there some pattern to the type or is this based on the fact the specific model is not in the TA book.

Yes, thanks and I do not doubt you that it's refurbished, but I am still curious as to how you would know that. The seller on ebay tells me it is brand new, not refurbished--of course ebay sellers are notoriously uninformed. So the reasoning behind your statement would be helpful.

the thinkpad PSREF only covers preconfigured and topseller models.   anything CTO refurbished through the outlet is given a specific model number like CTR, CT1, CT2, CT3, etc.   anything topseller or preconfig refurbs are given model numbers like RF1, RF2, RF3, X##, etc.   special bid systems (such as custom systems sold to corporations) can also get unique model numbers like X## but typically end in a letter 'U' (ie: ##U) to show that they're intended for the US market.

Thank you. That was a serious knowledge bomb. I'll stay away then from that system.

    no problem.

if you want the frameless panel, i'd recommend finding a few systems in the TP PSREF with the specs you want then searching for the MTM numbers online. many resellers will have these systems in stock and some may even be at a discount with both the holidays coming up and the eventual refresh happening in 2010. trying to find that perfect system in the outlet is a matter of luck and timing (but more luck than anything). plus, buying from the outlet will be taxed, where buying from most resellers won't. this detail alone can make prices more comparable.

    food for thought. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't refurbed units typcially knocked down to a one year warranty when they're refurbed and often the warranty look up is wrong until such a time as Lenovo fixes it? It would mean if it originally had a three year warranty ending on 2012-08-24, it would now be a one year warranty ending on 2009-08-24.

ZaZ - it depends on the refurb.   if the warranty expired before or during its time in the outlet, it will be reinstated with a one-year warranty.   if the system was originally a TopSeller or special-bid system with a three-year warranty still in effect, there's a better chance that it will retain a three-year warranty once purchased.

refurb systems with 3yr warranties are rare but do exist.   i have a few myself floating around with family and friends.

That was just my understanding. I've seen people here who did the look up and it said three, which turned out not to be true. I guess I thought they did them all that way.
