    Hello all,

I have decided to buy the Y510P, sli with the dual 755 cards and I7 processor. My question is, where do you suggest to buy from?

Now, when I purchase something, I want it to be SEALED in the box and never opened. I have had many issues with open boxes in the past from Amazon and other places. Any recommendations? How is IBM to order from directly?

    Thanks,

    Jason

One other question. I see some of the SLI models listed on Lenovo, however, it shows another graphics card in the ultra bay slot. Is that the other card? The reason I ask, is the main card is a 750 and the ultra bay is a 755. Seems a bit strange. I don't want to order the wrong thing.

Don't worry, Lenovo's website has more typos than an 8 year old's homework. The laptop you will buy will come with two identical cards, and even if it doesn't, there exists a 3rd party mods that lets any combination of GT 650M, 750M and 755M work in SLI in your laptop.

    Lol,

That's good to know. I will post when I order. You would think they would update their descriptions, not that hard.

I ordered and bought my Y510P directly from Lenovo on Dec 4 (almost Dec 5 as it was close to midnight) with an expected ship date of Dec 12.
While monitoring it, it shipped on Dec 7 presumably from China. Arrived in Canada on the 11th with UPS processing it on the 12th.in Concord, Ontario
Since I live in Vancouver, UPS ground shipping estimate it to won't be delivered till 17th Dec. I figured if I live in the Toronto area, it would have been delivered the 13th.
Due to weather issues in Alberta and possibly the volume of packages being Christmas season, it got delayed and I did not receive it till 21 Dec.
The laptop and the box it contained was packaged in a bigger box with packing materials and sealed well.

I figured that the expected ship date on the Lenovo website is more like the expected ship date from manufacturing facility to arriving in North America. From then, there is a separate delivery date that is more dependent on UPS moving the package. In Canada the only option for shipping is ground shipping albeit free so delivery usually takes 2-5 business days.after getting out of customs.

Purchased off Lenovo.com earlier today. I bought the 59405667 model with the 755 sli and 16gb RAM for $1259.99 I believe. Supposed to ship Friday the 27th.

Looking really forward to getting it. I am going to repaste all the gpu's - cpu's.

I repasted my Alienware 18 a few months ago with the IC Diamond and that is great paste. I will post some pics.

Be warned that repasting the main CPU and primary GPU will void your warranty. Hence why i am holding off doing it myself until next year.

Fortunately for you, both the main CPU/GPU tend to run much cooler.

However the Ultrabay can be repasted without voiding the warranty.

I take it that Haswells just run a lot hotter?

Yup. But you can undervolt them, unlike IB. So an undervolted Haswell should run just as hot as a stock IB.

Never been a fan of undervolting as that is a huge band-aid with potential catastrophic repercussions.

It is a 1300 dollar laptop, not worried about the warranty.

Mine is released to manufacturing and is supposed to ship today, not sure it will though. I have IC Diamond paste, I believe it is called. It worked great on my new Alienware 18, so I have no doubt it will work on this too.

I also have a Cooler Master pad on the way too.

I have played games for longer than I care to remember. Still the game I go to when I want to stress a system is World of Warcraft. It is the hardest on systems that I have seen. BF4 isn't as hard as it is for some reason.

I haven't decided on whether I will see how it runs first, or just repaste straight out of the box.

There are no downsides to undervolting. If you undervolt too far you get a BSOD, fortunately Intel XTU comes with Watchdog Technology that resets the CPU voltages if you do get a BSOD. And if you do undervolting properly, you find the right amount of voltage your CPU can run at without compromising stability while lowering temperatures and power consumption.
