I have been anxiously waiting for the Clevo W230ST, but stumbled across the Y410p today. I was not interested in the Y400 because of the low res screen. But the new 900p screen might have just sold me.

    My questions are:

Does the Y410p come with an open mSATA slot so I can load my OS on that instead of the 1TB mech drive?
Is the screen Matte or Glossy?
    Is it really 5.5 lbs?
Is optimus really disabled because of the potential SLI using the ultrabay?
Is this laptop as good as it looks for such a low price?

Edit: Is there any place cheaper than Lenovo's site at $850?

    1.) Yep
    2.) Matte
    3.) I'm not sure
    4.) Yep
    5.) Yep :)

Edit: there is one for $719 on Lenovo's site, but it has a 768p screen.

Did you use the coupon code for that deal? And was that total with tax?

You might want to look st the y510p threads. It looks like its not a mSata connection.

Hmm yes this seems to be a recent development, the new form factor is called M.2 and it will soon replace mSATA. Crucial will be releasing it's new M.2 form factor in late July/early August with 120, 240 and 480 GB sizes. So if you happen to own an mSATA it won't fit.

I asked the rep I ordered from if it had mSATA or something else. They said mSATA, I hope he didn't lie to me.

I believe it's 4.85lbs. I think the 5.5lbs is an error on their site.

I got mine for $809 as well through my company's discount portal.

Well with the Y400 and Y500 the motherboards were either exactly the same or at least shared the same attributes. (i.e. The Y500 says it can take up to 16GB RAM but the Y400 says it can only take up to 8GB, but it can also take up to 16GB). So if the Y510P has a m.2 connection or whatever I would assume the Y410P has that connection also. But no one has the Y410P yet, but I am just going on history.

Well if its mSATA cool I can buy a drive when I get it, if it's m.2 then I have to wait for them to become available but they are suppose to be much faster than mSATA or SATA III.

    y410p 59369921 ssd upgrade [noob]

im a bit confused. i'd like to use an SSD on this laptop but would still like to burn dvds. is that so-called ultrabay in the same spot?!? if so, how would i go about having an ssd and a burner? get an external burner? i'd like to use the ssd drive as my primary drive (faster i was told).

there is a couple ways to do it...

    1. You could replace the main HDD with a 2.5" SSD (this is what I am doing).

    2. Most laptops have a mSATA port that you could install a mSATA SSD drive in there. However, some members have stated that the Y510P is using something different that mSATA and if that holds true for the Y410P as well, the a similar option may be available, but more info is needed and may end up being costly.

    3. The last option would be to replace the optical bay with HDD or SSD. This does not sound like an option for you and really I only see this as an option people that want SSD AND a large HDD for storage, but you can accomplish that with option #2 as well.

Basically it comes down to what you need... Personally, I don't need a large HDD on my laptop as it's not my main computer. I'm going to replace my HDD with a 240GB SSD. This gives me better performance and in my case more than enough storage. Also keep in mind that I believe we also get a good chunk of storage through Lenovo Cloud, but can't find the info at the moment.

In regards to cloud storage, a "good chunk" means next to nothing for people who keep video and music on their laptops.

If I didn't misunderstand anything, there's a spot for an internal 2.5" 9mm height HDD, and either an mSATA or M.2 slot for an internal SSD, leaving the Ultrabay free for an optical drive, giving you 3 drives.

In addition, if you buy enough Ultrabay frames, you could be able to swap optical drive for an additional hard drive (backup drive) at any time you please. I think its nice if you can just plug in a backup drive which should make for speedy backups.

SLI GPU configurations in a small laptop seem counter productive: for one thing, many games don't benefit at all, and those that do usually get only 50% fps increase on average for a lot more heat and power.

I looked at your spreadsheet of Haswell gaming notebooks 14" and under...

I think Haswell matters very little for a gaming notebook, so if anything, I'd limit it to a certain level or range of GPU...

My mention of cloud storage was not meant to be taken as a replacement for standard storage. Cloud is nice to have, but still restrictive. The rest of your post is pretty much what I already said in regards to on board storage options.
