Is Lenovo the same way as dell where if you decide to extend your warranty after purchase, it gets expensive compared to buying it at the time of purchase of the laptop? I'm asking this because I'm on a very tight budget and I'm just going to extend the warranty towards the end around the last 2 months before it expires.

    Thanks :D

you can extend the warranty later, but it is slightly more expensive.

    Hi lead...

These days warranty is not a well defined term. It used to be that warranty was only extendable within 30 days of purcahse. It's been lengthened now so pehaps this would be a good time to outline the various warranty plans.

The warranty, to the best of my knowledge, has always been extendable while the machine is under warranty, but the accidental coverage windows has been extended to 90 days from 30.

Note that if you choose to extend it later, you can buy it through a reseller and not directly from Lenovo. Resellers do tend to offer the warranties at a discount.

I would avoid 3rd party warranties. They only cover the value of the notebook unlike manufacturers who will fix a problem that falls underneath the terms of the warranty.

You can extend an OOW machine too, it will just be more $$$ so you would be best to get it while it is still within warranty.

i think mil2 meant that you can purchase official Thinkpad warranty extension pack from third party retailers.

back when IBM ThinkPads came standard with 3YR depot and 3YR on-site warranties, extensions could be made up until 30 days of expiration.   most of the time this limit was waived and the warranty entitlement team would allow extensions up until the last day.

ever since the CTO program began and systems could be purchased with 1YR base warranties, extensions could be made up until the last day.

this has always been the case with both IBM and lenovo for as long as i can recall (which is 18+ years, fwiw).   of the millions of warranty extensions purchased, i cannot cite one case where the entitlement team denied an eligible in-warranty system to be extended.   not one.

I think Renee was mixing up the extension restrictions of TPP coverage with the general warranty plan.

i believe so.   TPP/ADP is the only service to have changed policies over the years that i can recall.
