I am planning on using a SSD for my primary drive and my current harddrive for storage in the Ultrabay. I need a ultrabay adapter so I can do this. The one Lenovo is selling is $60 and I have read some poor reviews. Do you folks know where I can get a cheap one 3rd party one that works well? I would love to hear some personal experiences. I saw a couple on Amazon and they get mixed reviews. Thanks.

The third party adapters tend to be more flaky in my experience. I don't know much about the Lenovo made one as I've not seen it.

Instead of giving wise counsel that has no actionable value, I will offer you something to consider:
- You cannot ask for an UltraBay adapter. You must specify which ThinkPad model as this will dictate your choice of caddy thickness.
- Search for the caddy sold by nimitz on ePray.
- Search for ThinkPad caddy at newmodeus.com.
I have absolutely zero problems with my solid third-party UltraBay caddies. - You cannot ask for an UltraBay adapter. You must specify which ThinkPad model as this will dictate your choice of caddy thickness.

Kaso, I will search as you mentioned. The thinkpad I am shopping for is my T500. Thanks.

Kaso, can you provide me the URL for ePray? I can't find it. I did find the newmodeus site. Thanks.

Hey Kaso,
Before I give you a rep....
I went to the newmodeus site and saw a lot of adapters but I don't see one for the T500, but for other models. Could you point me to one that would work on that site? Thanks. -
From my experience, support persons at newmodeus.com reply to email queries promptly. -
i got mine for my w520 from ebay for $10
fits perfectly, works just fine -

I also have one from ebay for $15 (SATA 3 6GB/s). It works perfectly fine on W520.

For you folks who bought from eBay and were happy with the purchase. Can you tell me which seller/auction you bought from? Thanks.

I got the one for my X220 Ultrabase from ny-computek. Works perfectly since December 2011.

I tried searching him (them? looks like a straight up store) as well but nothing came up. The actual name is ny-compu-tek, but that still won't show anything on the search.

Thanks guys. I decided to go with the caddy that ny-compu-tek sells. Hopefully it will work and look fine. Your comments have been very helpful.

I bought from ny-computek Ultrabay caddy for T520 which is 12.7mm and it just arrived to me. I haven't even opened the package. Will update you on how it goes. However, some things to look for are:
1. special latch on the Ultrabay - that holds caddy in the laptop, so to release it you have to pull the latch button on the underneath of the laptop. Without it caddy will drop out of laptop if you tilt the laptop.
2. make sure you know what height you need 12.7mm or 9.5mm or else.
3. that plastic thing that protrudes from the back of caddy - I have no idea what it is, and some ultrabays have it, some not - make sure you know which one you need. Just open your CD/DVD caddy and check if it's there or not.
Other than that - they all should work fine. -

Reporting back. I ordered the one from nycomputek and it arrived quickly. It looks great and it works perfectly. I have my 2nd drive in my machine now and it is detected perfectly. I am very happy with it. Trouble free and inexpensive.

I just bought one too but I made a mistake and ordered the SATA 2nd HDD Hard Disk Drive Caddy 12.7 Universal DV25 | eBay
instead of:
NEW 12.7mm SATA 2nd HDD Hard Drive Disk Caddy Bay for IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T420i | eBay
because i thought the corners had to be 90 degree angles like my dvd drive shown here
ORGINAL HP G6 SATA DVD±RW Burner Drive GT50N w CONNECTOR TESTED | eBay
Need ultrabay harddrive adapter. Help.
