Dont know if this has been mentioned before, but I was browsing Lenovo's website and noticed that now they have not only the T9300s, but also the T8100 and T8300 available (and for half their normal upgrade price!) for the T61's. I haven't checked the other model lines, but just thought this might be useful for anyone looking to shop for a new ThinkPad ;)

As of now, the T9500 is exclusive to R61 as well. T61's don't have that penryn yet.

    edit: applies to U.S.

No idea, sorry. I assume the R61 has the T9500 due to it's slightly more spacious chassis compared to the T61.

That wouldn't make much sense, since the Penryn is smaller and produces less heat. Not that sensible has anything to do with marketing decisions...

Well I myself am not shopping for a new laptop, I just thought that me posting this would be more helpful to those that are shopping for new laptops to know that Lenovo has certain lines that include the Penryns.

I just ordered a T61. This is my first notebook and did a bunch of research before I configured it on Lenovo's website. This forum helped a lot in figuring out what graphics, cpu, amount of memory, screen size and resolution etc.

I'd read about the Penryns coming out for notebooks but didn't think I'd be able to get one at this time. What surprised me was when I was choosing which processor, lo and behold, there were Penryns available--no shouting out by Lenovo "Get Your Penryn's Here   " just T8300, add $10. I couldn't believe it. Sure, I'll take a fast proc that runs cooler and extends battery life, and all for $10! I'm glad I knew what T8300 stood for.

BTW, I ordered on 2/8 and it shipped on 2/13. Tracking says "Incheon, KR Departure Scan". :D

Do you think the T8300 will still be a $10 upgrade by the end of the year? I do want to get it, but I can't right now.

Currently they're having a processor sale. Though honestly, asking if the T8300 will still be such a cheap upgrade over 10 months from now is a little silly. In 10 months a lot will have changed. Various components will have changed, things you can get now will be cheaper, and maybe even they'll have come out with T62's (btw does anyone have an idea of when T62's would come out?). Additionally, Intel is planning on coming out with Nehalem in late 2008 (though I'm unclear as to whether you'll be able to buy a laptop with it right then.)

As for the T9500, I think it's pointless. It's only 0.1 Ghz faster than the T9300, yet costs significantly (~$200) more.

I know this should go on some other "shipment" thread but:

Anchorage, AK US 2/14/08 11:59 am Arrival Scan

It almost sounds like I'm going to have my new T61 soon (if not later).

And, by the end of the year, I agree, there will be some new procs that will be faster, thinner, cheaper, cooler--my T8300 will be an entry level proc. I'm just excited to be getting such a (currently) fine notebook. I've needed one for awhile. Almost bought a Dell Vostro 1500 (boo??).

Yes, I did, a T8300. BTW, it arrived this morning around 11 am MST. Haven't had a chance to fire it up. Like I say, I'm glad I'd done my research and knew to look for a Penryn. I fully expected my order to be held up because "Penryn's are backordered yada yada" but it's sitting on my desk as I type this at my desktop. Go to the Lenovo website, configure a T61 and you'll see that the T8300 is still just a $10 "upgrade". As of 3 pm today that is.

And look for a 20% off coupon on google. There's one that's active till 2/18, I think. :D
