The announcement of the upcoming laptops state that they will have a 9-cell battery that fits into the space of a 6-cell battery.
Does anyone know if these batteries will be available for the existing T61p notebooks?
Thanks,

there is also a new break through in technology that will allow 30% better battery life because they changed an electrode I believe? that would be cool to see in the near future. Theres a link on engadget sorry to lazy to find it right now. it might be buried.

I hope they fit in the current T61p with out sticking out the back I may have to get one if they don't.

I see a couple "new battery technology"-articles every year, but nothing is happening.

If they make 9-cells fit into the space of 6, then I hope they make something like a 12-cell that fits in the space of a current 9-cell. The thing sticking out the back does not bother me at all.

I'm curious, do the 6 cell batteries fit flush with the back of the T61? I ordered mine with the 9 cell, so I wouldn't know. I wouldn't mind having one that fits flush also. I also have a bay battery for mine that I use, so I'll still have pretty decent battery life.
I just like having different options. Sometimes I like the clean look and other times I don't give a crap and I want to go for the long haul.
Mostly the latter of the two.

if they make a 12 cell t61p battery that fits into the space of current 9 cell battery, i'll have to get it. I regret buying the 6 cell instead of the 9 cell for my t61p.
