If you have Vista, the new BIOS install says to check that you have this Microsoft Hotfix. Where can I get this hotfix as MS site really blows when it comes to finding hotfixes. There's a page for it, but no download.
-
Microsoft emailed me the hotfix link. It was not released publicly because it is still undergoing testing. I have included the link to the hotfix and password that Microsoft mailed me. Hope this helps anyone that was looking for it

interesting..anyone have any problems with this?
-
The hotfix says it is not applicable to my x64 T61p.
-
-
The hot fix is not applicable to x64, because it is not required. The BIOS update is for the all T61 and T61p series notebooks. This information is detailed in the read me. Here is the link; http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67989

For 32bit Vista the readme for the BIOS update suggests that you install the Microsoft hotfix first.

what ms hotfix? installed it fine w/o any hotfixes
-
I also installed the BIOS first, without waiting for Microsoft to send me the hotfix. Either way I installed the hotfix afterward. With your BSODs and freezes, that hotfix might be the thing for your ballpark, eyecon

Check out my second post in this thread. Microsoft emailed me the link and password.

thanks for the info -

ok..now im really worried...i have been experienceing many freezes and bsods prior to another clean install...and now i installed this biosupdate w/o doing this hotfix..should i be worried?
-
Don't worry. The Hotfix is a windows fix. It would not install for me at all, and when you think about it. If you change your Windows install in the future the BIOS does not revert, so at some point you would not have the Hotfix anyway in your windows anyway.

stupid turbo mem....and stupid intel for not properly testing it and issuing proper drivers for it
oh, and i made sure i did not install the matrix thing since that is the root of the problem, so intel claims -
So, using this method how many items do you have in the device manager that are not properly identified?
-
-
My freeze issues seemed to clear up with deactivating the active protection, but in order to clean up the disc corruption from those freezes, I had to do a clean install. So I will be putting drivers back in tonight.... -
I just got another bsod without any turbo drivers installed, but with APS on..2 days after a clean install...made me so mad
i just did another clean install and im not going to even bother installing turbo drivers as last time or aps this time around
I'm only sticking with "windows update" and not even installing the thinkvantage updtate manager. only thinkvantage stuff im going to install is producitivity center for use of my blue button and installing the bluetooth software, client security for password manager, and finger print software
does anyone know which software allows the OSD for volume and which allows the fn+f5 for turning wifi or BT on through the screen? I want to install that one as well...and that is it....
this is turning out to be a nightmare
If I get anymore freezes or bsods by the 20th day...im returning this POS. I must say I was in love with thinkpads before, I used to own a t40 and it never ever froze, crashed, bsod'd on me and I would install anything and everything carefree though download.com w/o problems, download all sorts of stuff through kazaa
Now im even afraid to download the most certified software for installation. -

You should consider following the clean install guide to the letter. If you follow it as outlined, you will have full functionality. Including the OSD (which is the hotkey and system interface drivers).
Why not stay away from productivity center and client security for a little while? Did you read the FAQ in the guide with ThinkVantage suggestions?
If you follow the guide and you still have trouble, I'd say you probably have a hardware issue.
As for BIOS updates, they are a bad idea unless you have a specific update that the BIOS update will address. If you find that you must update the BIOS, it is a much better idea to update using the bootable CD method rather than relying on ThinkVatange System Update to do it properly. -
In this case though the BIOS update addresses a failure to resume from hibernation; is that related to his issues? I can't say but I can't rule it out.
The research engineer from Microsoft encouraged me to do the BIOS update even though it is not clearly related to my issues. I haven't done it yet, but probably will.
