Does anyone know if the new Edge 420s (or 420) laptops also feature an i7 Quad core (i7 2xxx QM) cpu as an option? Or are the new sandy bridge quads destined for a different lenovo product line (i.e. W or T series)? The quad could really well make this an overall rock solid business system.

I'm hoping that the distinction between a thin laptop like the T4x0s series and something like a T420 or W520 disappears. Ain't going to happen though.

I am hopeful that the W520 is thinner. Like 1" across the chassis. This is where I would like some engineering. On the high end machines.

But the sweet spot and market will likely be in the thin, swelve, ultralight category. Executives want them. College students want them. My wife wants it.

I would not count on a T420s Quad.

I assume that neither T520 nor W520 will have any major changes in chassis design or weigt - 15" ThinkPads had design changes year ago and it wouldnt make sense to change it once again IMO.
It could happen with transition to 22nm Ivy Bridge CPUs and chipsets that will come with them tho, but not sooner, that wouldnt make sense to change design every year for TP.
    My assumptions.

currently with the little info that we have we cant answer your question, however due to the presence of the AMD gpu, I would guess that those i3/i5/i7 are the dual core variant.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really like these new Edge laptops; they seem to have a great combination of hardware components coupled with relatively low equipment weight and long battery life (courtesy the new sandy bridge CPUs).

I currently have a dual core T60p that I mainly use for software development, and it weighs in a little over 6lbs. I was looking to the new Edge 420s as a decent, light weight, no-compromise performance replacement for it in the stated price range, i.e. $800 - $1,200, in the near future. From the little information that is out there, some have said that the CPUs are ULV which pretty much kills any hope of seeing a Quad core. Of course none of that is confirmed, but I can still hope right? If I stick with getting a quad, then the only option seems to be the next gen. W series (not sure if the T 420's will have it). But the W series laptops, for me, are just too heavy and bulky to carry around.

    No, the e220s uses ULV's.
