Sorry if this has already been answered but, if I purchase a new Hard Drive and use it as my primary HD, will I lose IBM's Active Protection System? I'm not sure exactly how the system works, but i'm hoping that the system is not just for Thinkpad specific HD's. Any input will be valuable. Thanks.

sure it works£¬the aps device isn't inside the HD but the mainboard!

Alright! Thanks for the answer debug3000. It's such a great feature, good to see that it's not Thinkpad Hard Drive specific...

right, this is taken from the IBM site:

Both the hardware sensor integrated into the system board and the software are needed for the Active Protection system to function. If the software is not installed on a system that has the hardware, the Active Protection system will not function. If the Active Protection system software is installed on a system that does not have the Active Protection system hardware, an error message will be displayed stating that the system does not support the Active Protection system and it should be uninstalled.

As long as the APS software is installed and active and the system board is working there's nothing magic about the HD.
