Anyone used these new HDs which go up to 100gb? I heard they are bit louder than the 60gb previous models (just want to make sure before getting 80gb one, caz I don't hear 5400 one I have right now it A30 at all). :decision:

You might want to venture over to the forums on ThinkPads.com. Lots of people over there are having issue with non-ThinkPad hard drives. I think they fixed by upgrading the bios and firmware on the drive.

I've always thought IBM/Hitachi drives are Thinkpad drives, am I mistaking?

The drives on ThinkPads have firmware specific to them. You can go over to the forums on ThinkPads.com and read all about it.

In any case, I would recommend going for the 7200RPM HDDs. When you make mamoth installations, Defrag your drives, move or copy things around, the difference really kicks in.
