    New IBM ThinkPad Laptops in October

    Brian and I talked to IBM last night at a tech show event in New York City and the reps told us that in the next 3 - 4 weeks we can expect to see some releases announced by IBM. Unfortunately they wouldn't tell us what these releases are or whether they are minor or major updates to any of their lines, but my guess is it is likely a minor update to the X40 series, so maybe an X41. And although the T42 was released recently maybe we'll see a T43? To be honest though, I'm scratching my head a little to figure out why they would update the T40 series so soon so I'm not really sure on that one. Maybe we'll see a new series line altogether from IBM, although I'm doubtful on that too. But stay tuned as we'll keep the site updated with any news related to this.

    IBM website has info for new ultra-bay multiburner avail in October. Perhaps this is the new upgrade.

    x40 series now ships with a 40G drive (was 20G). minor cpu speed increases with dothan chips (2ghz). i'm guessing a t43 will not be announced until the next rev of dothans and chipsets that support 533mhz bus are released (intel roadmap says q1'05). t42 needs an update on the firegl currently shipping as it is based on the same core as the 9600 (9800 released a months or so ago.) t43p also should have a dvi out port on the machine and not vga out.

    just got word from IBM that they'll be sending me a ThinkPad T42 with the biometric security built-in and they say this is the refresh for that series. They mentioned more updates coming soon to some of their other series...we'll see what that is by months end.
