Actually Vista is not all that bad. I just recently upgraded my HP DV9000t from XP to Vista. I disabled the aero glass interface and set the desktop theme to classic. The computer is up and running pretty well right now. Aside from learning a few interface changes, and a few programs that wouldn't run under Vista, I have no complaints with the Vista upgrade.

IMO if there are 5 people who hate Vista, there are at least another 25 that know nothing about Vista but pretend to hate it after reading stuff on forums. There's no bandwagon like the "I Hate Vista" wagon.

One thing I noticed about the Vista upgrade is the sound. I don't know if it's all just in my head, but I think the sound I am getting out of the headphone out under Vista is actually better than the sound under XP, it's clearer and has richer bass. Anyone else noticed this?

People act like the new Santa Rosa laptops are 40% faster then the old Core 2 laptops and that they need to go out and buy one. Where the performance benefits are really small.

If I had a T60 with a Core 2 or even a Core Duo then I would wait until LED back lit LCDs become the norm along with quad core cpus and soild state hard drives...

Sure theres Directx 10 gpus but in my opinion this first generation sucks and anyone looking to play next gen games are better off waiting for a refresh.

I can't really say much about Vista since I only used it back in beta and not as my main machine.

well i think its a good thing such people are going out and buying new laptops for that reason. it gives the vendors more business which gives us more knoledgable folk the opportunity to be exposed to new technologies developed by them, as a result of people buying new laptops all the time.

What does the p suffix mean? Does it mean performance or is it the 4:3 aspect ratio?

    You're probably right.

But there wasn't this reaction to Win2K or Win95. However, there was a backlash to WinME and Win98, which had to be replaced with a 2nd Edition to make it stable & useable. Vista might be in that same bad boat.

    but that's unacceptable.
right there is why the corporate world is, for the most part, boycotting vista
