Wow, just went to the Lenovo web site and it looks like it's been redesigned by someone's kid who happens to know flash. I can't think of a worse strategy for a company known for their BUSINESS laptops. There's crap flying in an out, and sound effects going on when you first visit the site. And the retro text on black background is just awesome.
Way to go Lenovo. Please fire your web design team.

I agree. It looks terrible!
-
What makes you think they had a design team?
-
Oh man, I just reloaded it and there was a voice whispering "Lenovo" with some kind of echoey background effect. Please make it stop.
-
Agreed.. Looks terrible..
-
-
Professional companies don't have flash either
p), but flash abounds at the Lenovo, HP, and Dell (especially) sites.
-
Agreed, looks and feels like crap. Can't find anything any more either.
-
lol. it's so much harder to navigate the site and actually buy a laptop, it looks. I guess they don't want you buying from their website, lol.
-
I prefer their previous design...
-
maybe you people should make suggestions on improving the website on:
Forum Housekeeping - Lenovo Community
Personally i dislike the black background and that ghost like whisper background sound (it scares my dog).
I am not sure why this new design change was carried through, the previous website wasn't that bad. -
I prefer the previous website, much easier to use.
anyway they have this sort of website survey (Lenovo webValidator study.)

that page is terrible, need to make much more clicks to get to the laptop/computer one's interested in. -
I have to agree with the comments on here, the flash intro just tops it off as cheesy for me. Even some of the descriptions are wrong (well under the UK site anyway) - the T410 having "Up to Intel® Core2 Duo Processor (2.33GHz)" just reaks of a quick copy and paste job. *sigh*
-
Well, at least they make it black.... LOL
I think it is better if they design the site for widescreen (since MOST of their current offering is widescreen PCs anyway). The content is design for down scrolling with wasted space at left and right side. 16:9 screen beware! -
terrible terrible terrible
As a web designer myself, I can say this is some embarrassing work. Someone needs a class in UI design. Shopping websites need to be functional, not flashy. -
-
Touché!

Lenovo - Professional-grade -
You know, I can tolerate (< key word ) most of the new website. Except that damn "Lenovo" sound effect that gets whispered into my ear every damn time.
...and when shopping for a new laptop and looking at the deals on their main page, you have to listen to it :/
Also, whoever thought of the floating sidebar with the 3 second wait while it updates your choices on the configuration page... >_< -
This as well as horror stories from people ordering direct from Lenovo were the reasons I decided to get my Thinkpad from Amazon. The website made me feel like it was very likely that they would mess up my order.
-
-
i guess this Lenovo version of the GAP-logo-gate.... hopefully this will increase Lenovo's social media pull (probably not).
-
Lenovos site is definitely pretty bad. Though what makes it the worst ever is that annoying jingle that plays when you first go to the site. It scared the crap out of me a few days ago and is rather unprofessional to boot.
-
I pretty much hate the site change, too.
-
Also, if you use your browser (or any program for that matter) in full screen/maximized mode, you're doing it wrong. Nothing drives me crazy more than people who have these big, beautiful, hi-rez screens, only to completely neuter them by full-screening every window. The whole point of "Windows" is to allow multiple windows on the screen at once.
-
. All I care about is that I get what I ordered, it doesn't take forever to get to me, and works properly. And ordering direct from Lenovo doesn't seem to have a great reputation in some of those regards.
-
i hate their new website too. much prefers the old one. so hard to buy things from them now. also hard to find their stuff that is on special.
the loud "lenovo" whisper is also very tacky/cheesy. -
I just checked out Lenovo's new website, and I must say, I agree with 100% of everyone else here (thier new webstie design SUCKS !). I wonder how long it will take them to change it around again (or IF they will change it). I'm sure if enough people complain, they will re-design it again.
The worst part about the new design, is that "LENOVO" voice lol. Almost cartoonishly funny. -
I like the new site!!
-
That makes one of you.......
Renee -
I like some aspects of the site -- mainly the showcase bits -- but I didn't realize that it had audio (I don't have Flash on any of my machines). Dear Lord. That's just horrid.
-
I don't care what a site looks like. A website is never too complicated to figure out.
I just wish it loaded faster than the previous site which it doesn't. -
Renee -
They should follow the philosophy they employ when designing their laptops: functionality > looks.
-
lol at audio. ?
-
On the bright side: this means that EVERYBODY can get a paid job, no matter how qualified he or she is.
Seriously, their new page is crap. -
Okay people, it is clear that we dislike the New Lenovo main Webpage and as Loyal Lenovo Customers we want them to improve or change their new main webpage.
So here is what i want from people whom contributed here:
-What do you LIKE about the new website and its functionality and why?
-What do you DISLIKE about the new Website and its functionality and why?
So that the people at Lenovo responsible for designing websites can follow a clear direction on things to change, and whether the higher management approve the change (i.e. whether it conflicts with the marketing/strategic goals, and whether it is financially feasible). -
I dont like how it is built - all amateur click here, I click, then click there or there again, I click and again I have to choose or look for into another page loaded where to click so I cant get to see product Im looking for!
Previous page was easier, hover over menu and choose from number of series what youre looking for! -
I would not change a thing, great site! Kudos to Lenovo's web design team.

Like:
1) Colors
2) Home page is simple (and that's as far as simplicity will stop go)
3) They still sell ThinkPads
Dislike:
1) Sound (Music and the Lenovo whisper)
2) Customizing the laptop (I liked the previous one where you see everything that you bubbled in all at once)
3) Navigating to the laptop (if I didn't know anything about Lenovo, I would have a hard time finding out where to click to see each model i.e. the way Lenovo presented the model names blends in too much with the whole page and needs to stand out)
4) Pictures (they need to add little standard icon pictures of the laptop under each model name or at least let the customers hover over the name to see the big picture above change and reserve clicking the name to take you to the laptop page)
5) Organization (anything under the product names such as Youtube-embedded videos and red dotted arrows pointing at captions, need their own section)
6) Accessories Pictures (they seriously need to provide enlarged photos of the accessory when you click the accessory's picture)
...
100) [reserved to be edited later]
Nonetheless, this is a learning process and I hope Lenovo takes a look at our suggestions and adjust their website.
By the way, I just realized all of the dislikes about the new navigating through the pages and such only happens when you click on the Product tab at the top. If you click on the Shop tab --> Laptops & netbooks, then you see the original previous design. -
What I DISLIKE:
- VERY confusing to navigate.
- That "Lenovo" sound on initial opening of website
- Trying to spec. out a specific model is near impossible (see reason 1)
- Randomly placed videos along website (looks totally out of place)
- all in all a very confusing/frustrating for the consumer to navigate. And even harder if you actually want to spec/purchace a laptop direct from the site.
LIKES:
- New color scheme seems to flow well.
- That's about it. -

The site is too slow to navigate. That is the biggest problem. In order to configure a new laptop, you have to scroll horizontally through way too many tabs, all of which you can't see on the screen at the same time. It gives you the feeling you're moving through a maze. I would like the old configurations page back where most of the selections for configuration were done on a single page. In fact, they could improve the old page by just putting absolutely everything on one page.
The sound effects are stupid. I'm not going to a club in New York. Moreover, flash animation is a waste of time to watch. I'd rather get my laptop fast and then waste time watching things once it arrives.
If they really want to go for a younger more modern look, all they need to do is take their old classy website and put Morena Baccarin in a nice evening gown in the upper right hand corner, holding an x201. That, coupled with easy site navigation, should help them sell plenty of computers. -
"-What do you LIKE about the new website and its functionality and why?
-What do you DISLIKE about the new Website and its functionality and why?"
I dis like the amount of information available on the new website. The new website is not the least educational. I do NOT like the new website at all.

Unfortunately, I've never seen the IdeaPad line in the same light as the ThinkPad line. It's not like Dell, where I've been able to see quality in at least some of the Inspiron and Studio lines. And Dell has the things Lenovo has not been able to do: an organized website, incredible logistics and just-in-time ordering, an Outlet site that has worked well even back when Lenovo's was as clumsy as a child's toy.
I think Lenovo is taking a wrong turn. I see it in many areas, from website, to product design, to shipping and logistics, to customer service (when not managed by great folks like Mark). I really hope they look at other companies that are working, because I don't see them as the next laptop I want to own. I hope that changes before Sandy Bridge goes mobile, or when it does. I love my ThinkPad --but I haven't been able to recommend them to non-computer enthusiasts. The website, IMHO, is just a symptom of larger problems.
EDIT: No offense is intended towards IdeaPad owners. I just think Lenovo has some work to do. -
You know, I just went to the Lenovo Contrator site. While redesigned, it's workable.
I hope they're more Firefox-friendly than they used to be. I could get right up to the checkout, then everything would screw up.
I also hated trying to right-click-->"Open In New Tab" only to get error messages. That was pretty amateur-hour. That appears like it may be partially fixed, though I'd need to do a lot more checking.
New Lenovo web site: worst site I've ever seen
