    See this:

    Direct quote from article:
But FYI, my X200 shut down in 5 seconds in both Vista and Win7, and boot into desktop in 15 seconds. Seriously, who in their right mind would trust CNET and their computer performance assessment?

Impressive numbers, zephir.. I wonder how much can be attributed to the SSD? Probably a lot :)

With a normal HDD it took about 25 seconds booting up and about 5 seconds booting down as well. So the SSD helps with cut booting time almost in half.

Is that with the SSD ordered from Lenovo that came stock with the laptop or did you order the SSD after and do a clean install? From what I have read is that all SSD's coming from Lenovo needed about 54 seconds or so to boot Vista or Windows 7..

15 seconds is pretty darn quick, how did you get it to boot in 15 seconds? Even my Mabook Pro with a Vertex SSD and a 2.53 Processor needs around 27 seconds to boot.

So this "Enhanced Experience", can this be put in existing laptops (T400, T500), or is it only on new ones?

I assume this is through BIOS and drivers; does someone have more information.

The video on Lenovo's site is good; it shows they understand the speed/delay issues, and did the hard work to figure it out. If you ever question why you may pay a little more for a laptop, it's paying for this type of analysis and engineering.

That said, how can I get EE on my current Thinkpad?

no, it's only available in full on new thinkpads.   current generation models (including desktops and workstations) will be able to run most of the EE features (most notably the updated BIOSes) but the EE builds of win 7 won't be available on non-EE-certified systems.

regarding EE, my X200T boots 7 in about 20 seconds and shuts down in about 10 using a 7200 RPM HDD.   with an SSD it would be markedly quicker.

thankfully i don't stare at my systems while they boot or shut down.   the time spent watching this stuff would shave years off my life. :p

Kevin has a two identical ThinkPad T400s machines right now with Windows 7 installed on one and Vista the other, stay tuned for his full assessment this week, it'll get posted to the front of the site. From what he has told me, bootup in Win 7 is faster than Vista, but he's not seeing huge gains in performance and in fact Vista is scoring better benchmarks in a number of cases.

Crap, and I just bought another Thinkpad.

Well, I guess I will wait for the next one. Or just go SSD, which takes care of a lot of speed issues.

My older X200T with SSD boots Win 7 Prof in about 35 seconds and shuts down in 6-7 seconds.

I want to see how people get these 15-20 second boot times  MAC OS is pretty fast and I pretty much got the higher end model and still can't crack into the 10's with my Vertex SSD.

I have been wanting to get a nice X200 but want one with a set up that loads in under 20 seconds and shuts down in a few seconds :D Need a nice screen too.

Some kind of Samsung, I think. I just popped it in and didn't really inspect it.

my former thinkpad s30 with a 667MHz PIII and 40GB 7200 RPM HDD could boot XP in under 45 seconds to a working desktop and that system was from 2001.   frankly, i don't know how people aren't getting faster boot times.

then again, maybe my stopwatch is slow.   who knows.
