Hi...
I bought an SL510 in HKK recently; as Lenovo was the nearest store when in dire need for a presentation after my other Laptop was stolen. I hate it, mostly due my own ignorance and lack of interest in computers. Of course the user manual thrills me even less. I use computers daily and can fix most problems on XP thru experience of previous problems (yes, I know what ur thinking, but don't go there, please)
So the question is?...Can I reformat the HDD and install XP and thereby lose all reference to Lenovo/IBM and 7. Or will the partition prevent me from exercising my malicious intent... I just want a simple laptop for email, skype and PPT....Nada mas
I know some of you live and breathe computer 'stuff' and I know someone knows (not guesses- I can guess) if a reformat will be successful and if there are other things that I'm not aware of that will foil my devious plan to ditch IBM/Lenovo/Win7...
Thanks...Paul (now in Panama)

You can do it but I think it would be too much effort compared to trying to get used to Windows 7. MS tried to make Vista and 7 more bubbly and user friendly than XP, but they all look the same to me.
You can find some Windows XP drivers here: Lenovo Support - Drivers and software - ThinkPad L410, L412, L510, L512, SL410 and SL510
Note that you will have to load the SATA drivers during XP installation if you don't want trouble, or set the hard drive into a compatibility mode (may or may not have a performance hit). -
Thanks for the advice Namaiki...But OS's are like smoking, hard to give up
Cheers..Paul -
Namaiki is right on the SATA drivers, though the problem with XP is that it asks for a floppy drive to load these SATA drivers and not many laptops have a floppy drive these days.
The easiest route is to slipstream the SATA drivers on to the Windows XP disc using nLite which is my preferred method. Most likely you will need these set of SATA drivers in which you need to extract on to the Windows XP disc. -
Hey,
I have created an image (US english) of Windows XP using nLite for the same purpose. Can share if you need it. -
... right? -
Newer hardware generally works better with Windows 7, so unless there's a hardware reason to go back to XP, sticking with 7 is probably the better bet. There are a few guides on the Internet on how to get Windows 7 to function a bit more like XP (especially the taskbar dynamics).
