For those who don't bother looking at software/driver updates for their Thinkpads, Lenovo recently released a new version of the hotkeys driver. Here is the link:

    Lenovo Support & downloads - Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP (32-bit, 64-bit) and 2000 - ThinkPad

I was pleasantly surprised to see they finally updated the on screen display theme. Here is a picture of it:

I recommend setting the fadeout time to 2 seconds. (for Windows 7, right click on your desktop and go to Screen Resolution->Advanced Settings->OSD Tab).

This isn't new from the latest update, I don't believe. I saw this 'theme' change a bit ago on my machine.

I'd have to agree they're a improvement over the old OSDs, which sort of looked like they belonged to an earlier era.

I really wish that it was smaller... While it's a welcome addition it just seems to take up too much space.

You can disable it or set it to go away after 1 second if you want to.

But I do kinda a agree - by having space between the bars the old one was less obtrusive.
