I just thought I'd give everyone a note that the new intel penryn cpu's are listed in the latest January 2008 T61/T61P hardware manual on page 144 and 145.

    They include:

    - T8100 (2.1Ghz) FRU 42W7881

    - T8300 (2.4Ghz) FRU 42W7880

    - T9300 (2.5Ghz) FRU 42W7879

    - T9500 (2.6Ghz) FRU 42W7878

Ten days ago I ordered 42 Penryn T61s off of Lenovo.com for an average price of $350. For some reason they got cancelled.

They were offering the Penryn's along side the Santa Rosa's - pricing was very similar. There was an option to upgrade to a 250 GB HD from 80 GB and it dropped the price $70.

Here's an interesting review. They liked the Penryn but not for reason that you may think. It has mild performance gains of the Santa Rosa family but it runs at a slightly lower core voltage and that saves power. IE they liked it for increases in battery life.

Nothing in particular, I realize that it isn't as huge as a chipset refresh, I've just been waiting so long to buy a laptop, and I figure that since I've been waiting so long, I may as well wait for Penryn to come out..

I'm running a desktop with an Athlon 3000+ and 1 GB DS RAM, so the upgrade will be mind blowing to me!

My desktop is a dual core extreme with 4 gb of memory using server 15000 rpm disks.

It seems to me that here are some things that my thinkpad will do faaster. I do think your socks will fall off.

    enjoy.
