I don't think this has been posted yet, but there was an update for Power Manager for Vista released (2.05).

    Updates:
    • (New) Added new feature of enabling/disabling 'CPU Deeper Sleep.'
    • (Fix) Updated battery error messages.
    • (Fix) Corrected inaccurate 'Effect of settings' graph.
    • (Fix) Corrected inaccurate LCD refresh rate control feature.

Which brings me now to my questions... What is this business about enabling disabling CPU deeper sleep?

is that referring to the highly talked about Vista Hybrid Suspend/Hibernate mode? I was under the impression that that Vista Sleep mode was automatically enabled (but then again, I never noticed it). Maybe this update is just offering the ability to disable it, if you wanted to?

oh, and just in case... there was also an update for the Power Management Driver too.

PS: and on another complete side note: does anybody know what the delay is between an update to thinkpad software being released and it being available to System Update?

I believe I did post the new Power manager earlier, however only for Windows XP. I can't seem to find the thread right now using the search tool, so maybe I'm wrong.

Anyways, the CPU deeper sleep I believe is related to the hissing / buzzing that most people are complaining about with their Core 2 Duo laptops. It is related to the different power states that the CPU operates in.

I updated to the latest one, and although lenovo supports all of these new features in the new changes, however for older models they are left in the dark as they are not able to take advantages of these new features. At least I haven't - aka, i don't see this deeper sleep option anywhere in my powe rmanager.

Also, alchemy, you can find out what latest version you have by going to the Add/Remove control panel and then selecting "more information" and it will give you the version number.

Oh wait that's XP... umm on Vista it should be similar. I assume this is the update that the OP is talking about - probably will have directions towards the end to determine what version you have
