I updated my W500 via the thinkvantage sys update 2 days ago with the new version of the power manager released 2/12/09 and it's been causing this rundll32.exe error on startup. To be precise, its:
"windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working"
I uninstall the power manager and the error goes away. Where can I dl the older version of power manager? Or is there a way to get this one working by changing the order of how I install power manager + PM driver + switchable graphics driver for my Fire GL 5700, because it's my understanding that they all work together.

If you saved your SWTools folder, there'll be a copy in there.
This is why I never update unless circumstances require it. -
Right on. Thanks.
I didn't have the SWTools but luckily the new version of power manager extracted to a different folder, leaving the old one in tact.
Thanks again. -
I had the same problem. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it (via System Update) and now it's fine. They must have patched it or something.

Thanks for the tip. Which thinkpad have you got btw?

Another thing I've found which can cause this error:
I had just done a fresh install of vista as well as the lenovo apps + power manager and everything was working fine. Since I never use the optical drive, I went to Device manager and disabled it, which gave me the Rundll32.exe error about 60 seconds later, and this again caused power manager to stop working, even after reboots.
I finally figured out that disabling my Optical drive somehow springs this error on me which then also shuts down power manager. Re-enabling the optical drive got rid of the error immediately.
New Power Manager v2.42 causes Rundll32.exe error
