I have read and saved the How-To for fresh installing Windows 7 and downloading the drivers. I will refer to these if I decide to make Win7 my OS on the SSD which will be my boot.

However, I am more wondering about how I would reinstall Win8 if I choose to. I bought my Y580 refurbished, and Lenovo told me to pay up for a recovery disk. I have read that my 750GB HDD has a secret partition with which I can recover Win8, otherwise known as the OKR. I also have this info about making a Win8 recovery drive with a USB drive: Create a USB recovery drive - Microsoft Windows Help

My question. Since I am reticent to pay for a recovery disk, if I want to put Win8 back on(and save myself time on downloading and reinstalling drivers) my new SSD, will I be able to fresh install using OKR onto the SSD? Or will I have to use another means to do it? I really can live with either OS.

Or, I could live with slightly slower boots, and use the SSD only for my games, which should speed up load times for them. My idea was to use the larger HDD as backup, and use the SSD to boot and load my games into it.

I recently added a M.2 128GB SSD card to my Lenovo Yoga 2 13. It also has a 500GB SSHD disk drive.

I used Macrium Reflect to save my HD partitions and then restore them to my SSD. It was straight forward except for copying the recovery partition. I had to use the Reflect option of drag and drop to copy it to my SSD. I then select None for drive letter.

When I booted to the BIOS, I changed the order of disk boot to get my SSD to be the boot drive.

It worked great. I have a Yoga 2 13 that is faster than the equivalent Yoga 2 PRO because of my Crucial M550 128GB SSD. It is faster than the Samsung SSDs that are used in the Yoga 2 Pros.

If you search, you can find more details on the steps I took. Search for Yoga 2 13 Internals in Google.
