What I'd like to do is update my BIOS. (I think I've never done that since I bought the W-510 or if I have it was a long time ago) and then buy an SSD, insert it into my W-510 and do a fresh install of Windows10 and not load any of the Lenovo utilities that have been on my laptop since I've had the laptop.
Is this a good idea? and how do I do it?
I imagine the first thing I do is use some Lenovo utility that is probably sitting on the laptop right now to load the latest BIOS.
Then I open it up and drop in a 250G SSD.
Next thing is that last night I got a Windows10 ready-to-install notice from MS and I presume the new OS has been downloaded to my the hard drive. So it is sitting on the old hard drive not the new one that I am putting in so what do I do?

A lot of the Win 7 era utilities have not been updated to working in Win 10 and some are no longer supported for some models. This is why I am trying to test win 10 on a T410 before upgrading my other machines.

I'm not sure why you are seeking to update your BIOS to do a clean install of Win 10 on your W510?
I did not touch the BIOS when I recently installed the following SSD in place of my hard drive on my T510, after cloning my old hard drive onto the SSD:

(sorry for the long link)
After installing the SSD, I wished I had done it years ago - it has breathed new life into my trusty ol' T510. The stock HDD was really holding it back. Yesterday I installed Win 10, and everything seems to be working great, so far anyway. I am thinking of doing a clean install of Win 10 to clear it of remaining bloatware.
Good luck with your upgrade.Last edited: Aug 30, 2015
