Anyone know if Lenovo is planning a new T-series line of Thinkpads to coincide with the release of Windows 7? Or will it be at least another year before we see that?

Very doubtful. The IdeaPad series may see something since it's the mainstream Lenovo line, but the T-series will likely stay the same. Most (business) users end up using the OS currently deployed throughout their business. Most are still likely running XP, while a few may have made the jump to Vista and, some, possibly waiting for 7 to arrive. The T-series will keep receiving hardware updates as usual, but nothing out of the ordinary.

ThinkPads usually don't update or refresh as much as other lineups. They usually only change when there is a new mobile platform. Seeing as the next mobile platform isn't due up until 4Q09 or even 1Q10 I wouldn't wait too long.

Browse this forum, some people are hopeful for a minor refresh with the montevina + CPU's but it's all speculation at this point.

rschauby is right, only when there is a new platform that we see any new update the thinkpad lines.

My current T series is working just fine with 7. I see no reason to create a new line to coincide with the release of 7.

    Right.

But this is roughly the official release date of Windows 7 (Oct 22).

I expect new Thinkpads to begin arriving roughly in this time frame.

Thinking back... Thinkpads have never really changed since the 80s. Most people at work (HP lovers) think my T500 is ancient. Once they see how fast it is compared to their notebooks, they begin to talk smack about how ugly it is. I love the plain look of the Thinkpads.

Back to the original question though, what type of 'update' are you expecting ?

    Thanks for all the feedback!

I guess I was expecting the hardware refresh rschauby talked about above. I didn't really think of it in terms of updated mobile platforms, but it makes sense.

I'm currently using a T61p. Before that, I had a T41. I'd like to buy a new Thinkpad, but I'd prefer to get the 'next one up' from the T400 (T401?). It just seems like I'd be buying outdated technology if I got a T400 now because it's been out for a while. That said, I realize Lenovo continually update the hardware, and not all T400s are made equal, in much the same way that not all T61ps are made equal.

I guess I'll have to wait until the end of the year.

One final thought: maybe they'd consider a refreshed T-series line with multi-touch screens. I'd definitely buy a T400 with multi-touch.

Unlikely, you might have better chances of seeing mutitouch with the X200 tablet rather than any other system.
