    hi guys.
Just this weekend, my new T400 showed up.
All excited, I pulled it out, hooked it up - first thing I noticed was, "Ah Crap, the 6-cell battery sticks out!". Grrr. Otherwise... beautiful.

Anyhow, rubbing my hands over it, I almost immediately discovered that I have a small hump in the plastic in the top... right in the middle, maybe 1.25" down from the dge. To clarify, if you have it open facing you and and close it, it's centered (left-to-right) about 1.25" from the dge closest to you.
You can't really see it just looking, but def feel it running you hand over the top, or can see if you look straight across the top. I put a carpenter's level on it and it rocks back and forth across the top.
It almost feels like a bulge as though something is underneath it, but it's in a weird spot, not really aligned w/ the camera/Thinklight.
Everywhere else on the top, there's a slight flex, like i can push it in a little, but not so much in that spot.

Anyhow, just wondering if naybody else has encountered this, and opinions on if it's worth taking up w/ Lenovo. Bought it through EPP so not sure if the return hassle is any different. it just bugs me but it's no deal stopper, more a "principle" thing - buy a $1200 prodcut from a company who's rep is based on quality, don't expect this kind of thing...

Otherwise I LOVE the unit, very quick, bright, lightweight... but this plus a few very minor other places do add to a general feeling of decreased manufacturing quality compared to previous TP builds.

i think that the tops are generally not supposed to be perfectly level.

i can feel the lid raised slightly from the 2 hinges, but i feel like it is reinforcement. the raised areas are pretty symmetric on mine.

But i don't have the same things as you.

i agree with the minor things that detract from quality.

Then why do you care? It's probably related to the wireless antennas that are house within the lid of your machine.

Like I said, it's just a matter of principle. I want it to be manufactured correctly, to be the way it's supposed to be.
B/c I'm minorly obsessive like that. Every time I run my hand over that particular area, I think, "grrr..."

No. I do see what they mean, the whole lid has a very slight bow to it, like an arc w/ a very wide radius.
This is in one very specific spot, a little hump, maybe 1.5" total tip to tip, height not more than 2 mm. Like there's some little thing in there pushing it out.

If I run my hand over the back section (near the battery, it's smooth all the way across.
Maybe i'll take some pics this evening.

If no one else has this hump, I'd give Lenovo a call.

I guess what I'm wondering is this.
Lets say that I call them and they say, fine, we'll replace it.
How doest he exchange work? Is it painful? I really do not want to have to mail it back (esp at my expense) and wait 2 weeks or something to get another. It isn't worth that level of PITA.

However if they instead do something like ship another, then when I receive it, place mine in the box and return using a provided label... that would be do-able and I will highly respect them.

Mailing it back is not at your expense but the time frame and the quality of the work...well just depends and we haven't been hearing as great of things as of late.

Also I think they will try to fix it first if they can before they give you a new one just like that, so it might take some turn around time. How much who knows. Some people get their machine fixed and sent to them back in 3 days, others have bad luck and it is weeks since some part is out of stock. Bottom line, if you are really bothered with take a chance and try to get it fixed/replaced, if not then forget about it and try to ignore it.

They'll be no new one. Probably a rebuild. The best hope is that everything lights up tomorrow.
