Finally realized that my repeated BSOD/memory dump/subsystem error crashes were related to the SP3 updates. I restored my XP system to pre-SP3 and disabled automatic updates. If anyone knows of a real fix to this problem or has more insight into what conflict is causing this, please let me know. When I spoke with Lenovo, they did not acknowledge this as a "known issue" even though I have seen it written about on the Lenovo.com forum by several folks who have my machine type, similar purchase date and running XP. I thought I did. In any case, spoke to a Lenovo support-dude who said Lenovo does not support Windows automatic updates and he suggested I stay away from SP2 and just stay on top of the driver downloads posted on the IBM/Lenovo support site. I restored my system to pre-sp3 and disabled automatic updates and it seems to be working okay now.
