Hey folks, I just bought this machine on eBay, advertised as just manufactured and with a 3 year warranty. I had been looking for a T400 with the WXGA+ LED screen for some time...

Anyway, now that I have the machine, I dug up the specs on the screen. They are:

Monitor Name: ThinkPad Display 1440x900 [NoDB]
    Manufacturer: AUO B141PW03 V0
    Manufacture Date: 2007

This of course raises a few questions: Does Lenovo manufacturer T400's with this screen? If not, did the seller upgrade it himself and thereby void the warranty? Its not a bad screen really, though its not as bright as I would have expected. Have I been duped???

Since your machine should have a serial number and machine type code, the first thing I would do would be a parts look up on Lenovos site and make sure what you have matches what it says. Then do a warranty lookup as well to make sure it has the amount and type of warranty that you expected. I don't know about that specific model number but AUO is one of the manufacturers that Lenovo uses for their screens. They deal with multiple manufacturers and the screen you get is a luck of the draw which you cannot specify. They also use screens from LG and Samsung and maybe a few others.

    MFG# 42T0596 FRU# 42T0597 14.1 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU

    In my computer:
    AUO B141PW03 V0

    Do these match?

I didn't find the manufacture of FRU#42T0597 but found this link. It may be helpful for you.

The manufacturer (AUO) is AU Optronics. The screen model listed is the B141PW03 you listed, and V0 is likely the version number.

From what I've been able to find ( Link) the panel is a WXGA+ CCFL-backlit display. Note, this is assuming your information is correct.

The T400 was available with an LED WXGA+ screen on and off in the past year so there's no reason to think it's not legit. However, Lonewolf's comment suggests you should check whether or not a CCFL screen has been passed off as the brighter LED version.

I also think it's the original screen, but simply a CCFL misadvertised as LED.

Thanks so much for the help guys-- like I said, the screen isn't bad looking, but I am disappointed it isn't LED back-lit (full brightness certainly isn't 'throw on your sunglasses'). I'll do some more research and then get in touch with the seller.

I'll probably just keep it. Is it worth returning it? It doesn't sound like I can get an LED backlit WXGA+ now. =/ meh

If you like the machine, write the seller and see if they'll give you a discount rather than having you return it, considering it wasn't as advertised. They may credit you back something just to close the transaction.
