My new T400 arrived earlier in the week and I have been debating over some OS and software issues.

My T400 came with Vista Basic 32 SP1 and the standard Lenovo software installed. I have access to both Vista Ultimate 32 and Vista Ultimate 64 through school. I have a couple questions to ask:

1.) From your experience, would you recommend Vista Ultimate?

2.) Anyone have any advice on a vista upgrade versus a clean install?
*note: I have to uninstall SP1 to upgrade to ultimate (w/o sp1)

3.) Is it worth reinstalling the Lenovo software?

    Thanks for the advice

    Josh

1.- It's good, but not worth the price. If you have access to it for cheap through your university, it is better than Vista Home Basic. I would go for the 64-bit version.

2.- Upgrade install tends to mess things up. I would go for a clean install, despite the hassle of installing drivers and such.

3.- I would recommend reinstalling some of it, most notably Power Manager and the hard drive Active Protection. The other stuff, depending on your needs, may or may not be necessary.
