I just received my new T420! I'm really excited as this is my very first Thinkpad and its a fantastic machine and I seem to get a really good screen as well! I don't seem to see the problems the other experience.

Anyways, I am having an issue with the optical drive. In device manager, I have a Yellow ! under DVD/CD with an error code: Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer.

To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.

I do this and uninstall the driver and reinstall and nothing. It keeps saying this almost after every reboot and I cannot use the cdrom drive!!

    Please help me!

    Thanks,
    Aaron

Call support. They'll probably send you a drive.

I called support and they said its a power management feature and the optical drive shuts down to conserve power. I'll give that a shot.
