I just got my T440s a few weeks ago and recently and a few days into owning it, windows will not shut down properly. The machine is brand new and the only program I installed on it was Microsoft Office 365 and of course the usually dozen or so updates Windows forces you to install.
Its not every time I shut it down, I would say every second or third attempt. I click on shut down, the screen goes black, lights stay on, and then hangs up. The only way to reboot it is to hold down the power button.

Should I contact Lenovo or Mircrosoft on this one? I didn't do any system backups or create any restore points when I first got it.

Any suggestions? From a few google searches this is a fairly common problem with Windows 7 Professional.

Not sure what the problem is, but if you haven't done much work on it, it wouldn't hurt to do a factory reset.

Are you using the Lenovo factory image? I had a lot of problems with it. I ended up installing Windows 8 from scratch to a new SSD. No issues since. I firmly believe it was something in the factory image.

My machine came with Win 8,, and I downgraded to Win 7 using recovery discs technical support sent. Have had no problems, except some minor activation issues. I would ask technical support to send recovery discs or just reinstall Windows using the recovery partition.

I paid $50 extra to get Windows 7 Pro installed right from the factory on my 256gb SSD hard drive. It didnt come with any recovery discs or anything like that. I think I might have to call Lenovo to see what they can do for me on this one.

Your machine has a Recovery partition from which you can reinstall Windows. When you start the machine, press Enter, then F11.

Would all the correct drivers be installed at the same time or would that have to be done afterwards?

All the drivers will be installed and it will be ready to go. It'll be exactly as when you turned on the machine the first time.
